With the explosive development of technologies, great changes had taken place in human lives. When it comes to how does technologies effect social customs and ethics, there are always a set of different opinions. Does technologies not only influence but also determine social customs and ethics? Granted that, development of technologies has changed our living status, and further changed our social customs and ethics, however, it does not determine social customs and ethics by its own.
Admittedly, development of technologies did have tremendously change our living status, then further changed social custom and ethics. With the help of technology development, now we can live a longer time than we used to do in the past and proportion of senior citizen becomes higher than before either. Thus, the middle age has come to a live status with more pressure of more people they should support. Such living status, which differs from the past, has engendered the popularity of nursing home, where old people can be cared. The social customs are differ from past, the middle age would has a smaller burden due to changes of living status of that a middle age has the obligation to support senior people in family.
Nevertheless, development of technologies is not the only factors that influence social customs and ethics. As we come to the origin of Thanksgiving Day, it has been set to remember how Indians helped New Americans, who had just arrived North America, to survive and plant. It is now becomes a tradition of appreciating helps from other people. As industrial revolutions have enhanced New American's ability of living and planting, though revolutions were majorly praised for progress made by individual, but they could not modified the traditions of Thanksgiving Day.
Moreover, people always eclectic between past and nowadays. No matter how mighty technologies are, people still can not get rid of boundaries of traditional values. Clone technology, which in purpose of cultivating transplantable organs for medications of some diseases, is meaningful and considered mighty. Yet, most nations has limitations on cloning human, because traditional value of that people, as single which consists society, should had a unique identity and exact social relationships, such as father, daughter, etc, to other people.
In sum, even though that development of technology has proved its ability to influence social customs and ethics. Yet, it fails to dominate what social customs and ethics should be.
