Nowadays, there is a controversial issue about whether the socialization of children determines the destiny of society and whether we reach the standard in children’s education at present. Due to individual experiences, beliefs, and emotional concern, we may find that some people hold the opinion that the socialization of children is not the unique factor influenced on the destiny of society, on the contrast, to a great extent, many other factors play much more pivotal roles in determining the future of society while others have an opposite or partially opposite attitude. To agree or disagree with it is a matter of balancing between its pros and cons, but if one has considered the following perspectives, he/she could only agree with the former as I do.
Admittedly, the latter statement mentioned above that how children are socialized is of great concern for the future of society is quite compelling, for two reasons. First, indisputably, the socialization of children is important for themselves. For children, it is not only the process of learning basic knowledge and skills and fostering their cooperation consciousness, communication skills and the awareness of responsibility, but also help from their future outlook on life, values and morality. For example, children have learned braveness, honesty, cooperation and persistence in the games. Second, more or less, how children are socialized has effect on the future of society. Without the proper process of socialization, the children, who develop a personality of indifference or become an introvert, perhaps even an anti-socialist, may cause harm to the society. A telling example of this involves that Ma Jiajue, a student of YunNan University in China, had a good talent in physics and had won awards in national physics contest. However, his isolation from society when he was a child led him to be an aloof, taciturn bigot and finally he murdered his four roommates merely due to some trifles. As a matter of fact, these examples are defying enumeration. In short, the socialization of children is an indispensable step in the growth process.
While the claim discussed above has considerable merit, I take exception with the claim when it comes to the key factors helped society develop and progress for a long time. The chief reason why I generally disagree with the issue is that it is unnecessary for us to emphasize on the socialization of children excessively. On the one hand, the children will be socialized naturally sooner or later. On the other hand, the children, if socialized untimely, on the contrast, may be harmful and even lose his individualities and become a boring and pragmatic ‘adult’. To illustrate this, there is an appropriate example that is very persuasive: child stars. Premature fames brings them popularity and wealth, but at the same time, makes them carry overweight pressure. Performance, interview, and early social contact……all this makes their little hearts exposure to the social big dyeing tank. Hence, due to a premature socialization, many child stars appeared different problem, for instance: the lonely heart, the lack of stability and the refusal to growth. In short, even though there are many different views, concerning this topic, in part, I still would like to say that for growth of children, socialization is an inevitable result, so we needn’t to socialize the children deliberately.
Besides, the further advantage that must be taken into consideration is that the destiny of society is not merely decided by the socialization of children; however, it depends on the other indispensable factors at the same time. An instance can give the details of this argument: Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as ‘Mahatma Gandhi’, the Indian nationalist movement and Congress Party leader. He leads the country towards independence, from British colonial rule. His "non-violent" philosophy, that is, he said the "satyagraha", impact on the world's nationalists and those who seek peaceful change of the international campaign. It also inspired the other colonies to the people for their independence struggle. Gandhi's main belief is "satyagraha", English to soul force, which means "spiritual force" and "the road of truth" and "the pursuit of truth." This inspired other pro-democracy movement, such as Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and others. So, as far as I am concerned, it is outstanding individuals, like excellent leaders and great scientists, not the populace, who play the key roles in promoting social development and progress.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the speaker seems to fail to take into account the fact that for our current children’s education, we should not be excessively pessimistic. It is good that professional educators are responsible for the children’s knowledge learning and moral cultivation while the parents are responsible to instruct their psychological health and teach them life knowledge. In addition, to give the children a comprehensive education environment, schools and community provide them many opportunities to be socialized. If we can see this, we will easily understand the advantages of our current education.
In sum, I concede that lack of socialization of children may cause unexpected troubles, even disasters. Nonetheless, to some extent, the assertion of author overrates the effect and importance of the socialization of children and underrates our current education ability. In the final analysis, I commit to the optimal approach that we need to seek a balance and take an all-sided consideration. Although the essential socialization is necessary, we shouldn’t overlook the effect of personal ability and the importance of individual leadership. |
