Artists are very sensitive to the subtle changes around them and their viewpoints are often ahead of times. Arts, as an expression of artists' feelings and ideas, is capable of revealing the hidden ideas and impulses of a society. Besides, the main functions of art are having more to do with the mainstream perspective.


To start with, artists observe the society with their unique views and find things special and beneath the surface. Among these things the most famous one is named beauty. In various ways, artists attempted continually to explain and reaveal the beauty hidden in everywhere igonring by normal people. The beauty of rurial sections, of people in sports, of smellings on our faces, etc. Even if we are occupied by our proffesions, homeworks, daily rutines and overlooking the beauty of the world around us, artists are always there ready to show us a different wonderful world.


Furthermore, sometimes ideas and impusles are hiddened intentionally by authority or government due to political or comercial reasons. Or they are not awared by the mojority becuase of the limitation of culture, tradition, or even prejudece. However, some artists who have enough courage would face these ideas and reveal them for the image of a ideal society in their belief and for the justice or kindness they hold. For instance, hundreds of years ago when women did not and even thought themsleves should not to share the same rights as men did.  It is through the arts that the idea of Feminism getting widespread such as writings by Christine de Pizan in the 15th century and Mary Wollstonecraft in the late 18th century. Another example can illustrate this point is that before the civil war could finally abolish the slave system, the light of freedom for the slaves came from the arts like the novel "uncle tom’s cabin".


In addition, the arts could also expose the protential problems of a society. Nowadays,the ill psychological states of people are a major potiential social problem worthy attention. Literatures and paintings display this phenomenone by disribing people's constrained emotion and consequences brought by mental illness. Moreover, the issue of abortion, drug use and racism are also widespread by arts. On the other side, gradually commercialized by the modern society, a lot of artists are unwilling to seek for hidden ideas and impulses,instead they staying with the mainstream or catering for the favor of the majority. This phnomenone is especially apparent in the field of movies and musics. Enormous ads are added added in those comercial movies and the ideas conveyed in musics are more and more superficial.


Summing up, the arts provide different views and expose those ideas and impulses which are ingored by ordinary people while others are limited by established habits and viewpoints.Besides,arts could also expose potential social problems. Finnally, We need to notice the ruduce of such revealing in modern times.
