The argument cite a result of telephonesurvey that, rather than younger workers, older workers do not need supervisorto increases their productivity, therefore hiring mainly older employees willincrease the productivity and reduce the expense of the company. However, the presidentseems to make a wrong comparison and some wrong assumption during his judgmenton this event.

Firstly, since the survey is accomplishedin an automobile factory, the result may have no use dealing with a Printingcompany. Perhaps, in that automobile factory, older workers are more endeavorthan younger workers and they have a higher passion in manufacturing a car. On contrast,older workers in printing company are bored with their daily work and need moresupervisors. What’s more, the method of survey is also open to doubt asrespondents may not fully understand the meaning of question though atelephone. It is also possible that workers may not answer the question seriouslyas they have not enough time to consider in the telephone. A face-to-faceinterview of own workers may do more scene. Therefore, using the result of anirrelevant and unwarranted survey may cause wrong decision

Also there is no evidence to support theassumption that older worker need no supervisors to increase productivityequals to the lager productivity than younger workers. Older workers mayinferior to younger workers in many aspects such as physical situation, devotionin working and the pursuit of their career. A younger worker may be able to domore work than an older one, and he may work harder to obtain the applause ofhis senior to pursuit a higher position. Though a supervisor could increase theyounger workers productivity, this cannot prove that their basic productivityis lower than older workers

Finally, even that the older workercontribute more to the productivity, it cannot ensure a lower expense in employment.It is universal that salary of an older employee is higher than a younger one.The arguer does not provide the accurate cost in employing supervisors, youngworkers and old workers. It is possible the expense spend on older employeesmay far higher than the money saved in reduced need for supervisors.

To sum up, the argument remains many flawsin its reasoning. The convincing of the conclusion weakens by the unreliable survey,the wrong assumption about the productivity of older and younger workers andthe missing information about the accurate cost in employment. To enhance the persuasionof this argument, president should make a more detail and further investigationbefore reaching the final conclusion.
