Artists create art to the world, while critics interpret art.

Gifted artists decorate the cruel world with intricate art works reflecting the profound depth of human nature and the beautiful desire from human heart, without which there will be no critics. The Mona Lisa of Da Vinci smiles silently in the Louvre for hundreds of years, and yet there are still a lot of mysteries about her, which attracts years of study and papers of criticism. Some says Mona Lisa is a picture reflecting Da Vinci himself, some says it hides enlightening thoughts against the religious rule, whatever it is, people have millions of information to choose and believe, and they buy books about Da Vinci, watch related TV programs, which on the contrary stimulates more and more critics to make all kinds of remarks. This is only one case, without which hundreds of critics may not exists and thousands of people may lose their jobs.

Art is so important, and then what do critics do? They are expressing their own particular ideas about art and helping the ordinary public understand the great minds. Ordinary people are limited facing the historical art. Perhaps an Asian resident will never have any interests to know the great picture Mona Lisa which is far in France unless one day he watches the news in which a critic is talking that this picture is the greatest work of France during Renaissance. Or, a middle school student in America may understand why the novel "Uncle Tom" is important in history after he hears the remark that the civil war started from this book. In these cases, to a common people, the criticisms are more impressive than the art.

Sometimes critics also act as discovers or introducer of different art forms to the public attention by their careful and professional criticism. Because of the introduce of western and eastern critics who came to China during World War Two, the western people got to know the Peking Opera, another form of Stage Art besides the famous Italian one. Now the Peking Opera has attracted over 70 thousands audiences in America and becomes world famous. Another example is that street dance was considered to be something inferior and ungraceful, but with the increasing popularity and the positive criticism around the whole world, street dance finally identified as an form of art which originated in the lower class of society and attracts young people.

Though not all the critics have professional attitudes and knowledge and sometimes catering to the curiosity of the populace, it is with the help of them that people have chance to know the essence of art and to return to the inner world of heart which is emphasized by all the artists.
