130"How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."

Does children’s socialization determine the destiny of society? Is it true that we haven’t learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society? The speaker’s answer is in the affirmative. I also concede that children’s socialization is crucial indeed for our society’s prosperity, and we do poorly in some area of education related to social intercourse. However, an overall consideration is needed if we want to analyze the proposition comprehensively.

The primary reason why I partly agree with the assertion is that social interaction seems to be an unavoidable trend in today’s world of globalization. Helping practice one’s self-management
ability and foster a correct outlook on life on the personal level, social skills also strongly influence the development of the society as a whole.
Scientific researches, environment protection programs, and trade cooperation all need people who are rich in social experience. Nevertheless, lacking social capability may lead to a sad ending in both individual and national senses, just as the case of campus gunshots and China’s closed economy before 70’s.

Admittedly, schools, from primary school to universities, always take grades too seriously while students’ social acceptability is overlooked. It’s the same case in family instruction - instead of teaching their children skills and habits that enable them to fit in the society and feel more comfortable, parents keep emphasizing the importance of being number one in their class. If education is an iron-balance that weighs scores and abilities, the scales are sadly askew.
Yet, socialization isn’t the only determining factor of the destiny of society. The call for a more comprehensive education as the path to producing truly capable future constructors comes with other virtues such as faith, fraternity, and a free mind. In the effort of climbing to the peak of Mount Qomolangma, socialization is just your protective gear, and what decides whether you can make it depends on your persistence and innovation. For supporting examples we need no further look than Steve Jobs, one of the first manufacturers of personal computer who cofounded Apple Company. Being forced to resign from Apple with only five employees following him, he obviously did poorly in handling the social network. However, his inspiration and toughness spurred him to start a new company followed by a series of aggressive steps designed to boost consumer confidence in Apple, and finally helped him regain his position. Compared with socialization, one’s own genius and virtues seem to weigh more.

Finally, it’s unfair to claim that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society. If it’s true, negroes would still sit in the back of a bus, Hilary would never be the Secretary of State, and as an international applicant, I would never have the chance to sit here stating my viewpoints. The past 60 years since World War II have witnessed a booming on both economical and spiritual level of human beings, and it’s hard to rule out a good education from its causes. Complete individual rights, cooperation among different cultures, and our colorful life today can all be attributed to people who learned how to raise children that can help bring about a better society half a century ago.

In sum, in asserting that children’s socialization determines the destiny of society and we haven’t learned proper methods to raise children who can contribute to a better society, the speaker missed the point that there are other virtues prospective children should harbor, and also that we’ve already achieved much in raising outstanding children. As is suggested above, we should put same efforts into instructions concerning students’ social skills and individual creativity that serve to make the world a better and fair place in which to live.
Lifelong Suns fan.

作者理解的社会化是不是有些狭隘了,我认为社会化是一个过程,是家庭、朋友、学校、社会共同教育的一个过程,所以作者讲的social experience 只是其中的一个环节吧,还有道德等精神层面的培养
