Considering the well-known proverb, failure is the mother of success, no one could ignore the significance of any important mistakes in the process of human's civilization. However, the speaker apparently have overlooked some special facts and then drawn an absolute conclusion. So I partially agree with the conclusion that the importance of some failure is undenied, but to some details more accurate attention should be payed.

The history of science is almost a procedure of trial-and-error. Nearly every innovition is a new method aggregated by the previously prevailing things, in which there may be full of disadvantges and enough room to be improved. Taking the field of physics for an example: there has been a long-lived debate between the wave theory, which was brought out in the 18th century and well prooved by many experiments, and the quantum theory, which was a popular view during the beginning of 20th. One striking function of reviewing history is to predict the occurences in the future, including to diminish the risk of false. Whether discovery and progress would come along with mistakes depends on our attitude towards the failures that we have committed.
