Thefollowing appeared in a memorandum written by the vice president of Nature'sWay, a chain of stores selling health food and other health-related products.“Previous experience has shown that our stores are most profitable in areaswhere residents are highly concerned with leading healthy lives. We shouldtherefore build our next new store in Plainsville, which has many suchresidents. Plainsville merchants report that sales of running shoes andexercise clothing are at all-time highs. The local health club, which nearlyclosed five years ago due to lack of business, has more members than ever, andthe weight training and aerobics classes are always full. We can evenanticipate a new generation of customers: Plainsville's schoolchildren arerequired to participate in a 'fitness for life' program, which emphasizes the benefits of regular exercise at an early age."

The argument appears to be persuasive, yetthoroughly scrutiny reveals it flawed in several facets. By enumerating theall-time high sales of sporting apparels in Plainsville, the increasing numberof a health club and a ‘fitness for life’ program participating by localschoolchildren to convince us that there are many residents who want to leadhealthy lives in Plainsville, the recommendation of building a new store inPlainsville seems logical.

However, the vice president of Nature’s Wayfails to consider other crucial factors when considering whether a store isprofitable. These factors should include the competition the new NW store willface and the consumption level in Plainsville. It may be possible there alreadyhas a similar store opened. And when the new store opened in Plainsville, itwill face fairly intense competition and there is no guarantee that the NWstore will win this competition. It could also possible the price of NW store’smerchandise is too high for the residents in Plainsville to accept and the costjust make NW impossible to lower the price. In addition, the taste of theresidents in Plainsville should be taken account of. Maybe residents inPlainsville have cultivated a special taste and are too fastidious to cater. The author should consider all these situations more carefully before makingdecisions.

All-time high sales of sports apparels donot necessarily mean that residents in Plainsville would like to lead healthylives. Perhaps Plainsville happens to have mountains around and every year manytourists come to climb mountains. And most proportion of the sales is fromthese tourists. Or perhaps sports apparels are just fashionable these years andpeople buy them just to be fashionable.

More members in local health club and fullclassed of weight training and aerobics do not equal to more sales of NW store. We all know more and more people concerning their shape more prior. As thistrend rapidly increases these years, it is totally possible that people goingto health club in Plainsville have no interests to buy NW’s products.

There are too many variations in thefuture. We could not determine what will happen even in a day. So after the participantsin the 'fitness for life' program grow up, we are not sure if they still wantto lead such a healthy life. It is totally possible they will lead a unhealthylife then as a reaction to the mandatory participation.

Planisville may be a potential place for NWto start a new store which will be profitable according to the argument. Yet,the argument will be more convincing if the author provide more direct evidencethat there are indeed many residents in Plainsvills who would like to lead ahealthy life ;they are also in favor of NW’s products and very willing topurchase these products.
求拍,尤其开头结尾,不用模板感觉有些无所适从。
