reading是anasazi的
Prose
The lecture refuted the reason listed in the reading material of why Anasazi, an highly advanced ancient group in New Maxico's Chaco Canyon around 1130 A.D., dissapeared abruptly. There're three reasons as follows.
Firstly, the global warming, epidemic as it was, did not affect the Anasazi's residental area. Scientists have found evidence suggesting that there have been trees in that area existed for over thousands of years over that period. If the global warming was severe enough to drive the Anasazi away, these trees would certainly die. This contradicts the point made in the reading material that global warming during that period caused a 60-year drought that forced the Anasazi to leave.
Secondly, the installation of irrigating systems including dams and canals does not suggest that the Anasazi, as mentioned in the reading material, suffered from that drought. On the contrary, it proves that the Anasazi were fully aware of the short of water supplies, and they built the irrigating buildings against the drought. Recent study ,cited in the lecture, indicates that the Anasazi bulit some structures to store crops against the summer drought.
Finally, the statement in the reading material is merely a hypothesis. Recent findings tell us that the summer drought was not severe enough to cause the exodus of Anasazi. However, scientists suggested more accoutable reasons such as attacked by warring tribes , or overuse of land.
All in all, the exodus of the Anasazi's may not be the result of the 60-year summer drought caused by the global warming.
