The speaker refutes the reading's argument about the benefits of providing four-day workweek by providing contradictory evidences about the profit of the company, the overall economy and the individual employee's life.

The speaker begins by stating that providing four-day workweek option will not increase the benefit of the company. In contrast, it may reduce the profit dramatically. Because of the four-day workweek, the company has to employ more workers, which will cost the company more money on the training and medical benefit. Take the health benefit for example, the company will pay the equal amount of money for the employee no matter he works four days or five days per week. Furthermore, other costs should also be considered, such as more office cubes and computers.

Then, the speaker goes on to argue that four-day workweek does not necessarily benefit the country's economy. He points out the fact that the company may not hire more people even though it provides the four-day workweek option. Because the company may let the employees work over time or give the four-day workers as same amount of work load as the five-day worker.

Lastly, the speaker challenges the argument that the four-day workweek will improve the worker's life by pointing out the fact that the four-day worker runs the risk of losing the efficiency of working, being fired firstly and less opportunities of promotion. These factors will definitely harm the worker's life.
