“Education is primarily a personal matter;it has nothing to do with school or college.”

Benefit by the rapid development a more prosperous and civilized society, an increasing number of people seldom goes to school or college but study on their own and has gained appreciating achievements, not only in the field of study but also their ocassions. Thus, they considered their study and self-education has nothing to do with those education institutions as what the speaker’s assertion implied, however in contradictory, I think that education is not only an individual stuff but more a matter of all human-being, and it has inseparable relationship with those education institutions.

To begin with, dated back to the Paleolithic Period, our intelligent ancestor had already found ways, by craving frescoes to educate their offspring and through which their advanced and prosperous culture could be inherited, widespread, and continued, so that even till today through those stone weapons and frescoes we still can figure out how their life were and how advanced their technologies and civilization were at that time. And this kind of way of culture heritage also has been improved and advanced so that today among education institutions all over the world, the leading method to educate is to teach students both orally and by tricks of PPT, or videos. Thus, it is not untoward to find that culture cannot be inherited and widespread through the power of a single individual, and education is the most efficient and a must approach for the human-being to instruct their descendants and to continue their culture.

Even for that, the speaker may still allege that education has nothing to do with school and college, for all human-being with a proper educated instructor, most frequently and appropriately his/her dad and mum, can simply stay at home and have their individual study. Admittedly, those talented through self-study do exist and even with an ignorable amount of numbers, such as Bill Gates, the world famous CEO of Microsoft, who had discontinued his lesson at Harvard and self educated computer and set the one of the best computer company, also Michael Dell,another computer genius complete his study with self-education and set up Dell,and backward to the very intriguing 18 century, when born our King of Invention, Thomas Edison, a strange, love-ask boy who also drop out, andinstructed by his beloved mother…I cannot deny that those genius through self-education are too many to count but what I also cannot deny is that what basic courses and education they learned and received cannot be shaken off with education institutions, for at least those basic courses they were taught at school, not to say those books or experience they self-studied were precious treasures and spirits left by our greatest ancestors. Therefore, toward those valuable experience and treasures left by our ancestors, how can one be ungrateful and boast to say that education is one individual thing and has nothing to do with others?

For my last analysis, the speaker overlooks that school has two meanings, in a narrow sense, it is just a simple place where teachers deliver knowledge, solve problems, help students to build up their value system toward the world and to help them to prepare capable skills and technologies for their future career, however in a broad sense, school is the place, as a matter of fact, here the “school”, is everywhere where one exchange, share information, absorb knowledge and teach others. A better example to further my illustration is that once a person met a paralyzed, he/she learnt from the paralyzed to cherish and appreciate one’s life, or once he/she met a beggar, he/she learnt mercy and sympathy when faced with vulnerable groups, and both these two places are easy to find on the way to our schools orworks, for they are one of the tiny aspect of society, which means society is also a school, a school that teach people how to behave well and how to live one’s life. Thus, education is definitely and even indispensable to school.

To draw a conclusion, for some people, especially, those with innate gifts, self-study may be a proper approach for them to absorb knowledge, however, in order to serve the purpose of a greater amount of people--all human-being, universal education, which means, students enter schools for study is a much more appropriate and pragmatic approach. What’s more, given and inspired by the precious treasure left by our ancestor,we are and should be honor to say that education is not only the individual stuff, but more it is the universal goal and matter of all human-being to widespread and continue their prosperous culture.
