Well, right now, it looks like about 6 years of wait for 485.
Then 485 takes another 1 year, which really depends.
Totally about 7 years to get the card. But I think 485 pending is good enough and then it is 6 years.
However, in year 2007, which has not get processed at USCIS, there was a big number of 140 applications. So, people are afraid a draw back of proceeding speed when it comes to evaluate 2007 materials.

On the other hand, just yesterday or maybe 2 days before, USCIS claimed that from Oct 2010 to this month, there has been a big decrease of EB1 application number. Then they will put more than 10,000 spots to EB2, which will make recent EB2 progress quicker. Unfortunately, they also claimed that most of these additional GC spots will be given to Indians but not Chinese. As I always believed, in almost every area in US, Indians are our major competitor.

Anyway, things get changed year by year. From the significant increase of study aboard number from China, it seems the time will not get faster in the future. I will choose to forget about it. Apply as soon as we can, and then forget about the progress and maybe check the priority date progress every half year or 1 year.

Getting a job with H1B is the most important, as we will need to wait for such a long time for GC.

LS不懂。PERM开始的时候排期已经开始计数了。所以PERM 140什么时候批对绿卡整体的时间没有影响。如果是Current，140 485可以同时交，反正现在时间就卡在485上。

目前PERM 一周内批
140 PP 2周，非PP半年内都能批
等的都是485排期

485交了其实换工作什么都无所谓了

优先日期是第一次申请移民的官方行为开始的日期。这个法律规定的。没什么好解释的。

OK, sorry, I was mistaking the Perm with NIW. 140 date for NIW, but Perm is the day of LC. As I used to be concerned about to go through Perm or NIW for a while. It looks Perm might be a better choice now.

1. The date the I-140 is filed, if filing for an immigrant visa category
that does not require a labor certification, or

2. The date the approved labor certification was received at the Department
of Labor, as indicated on the certification, if filing for an immigrant visa
category that does require a labor certification

You get Perm passed in 2 days? You get super good luck or super strong package. looks at the following cases.

Well, old cases does not count any more. Things have changed so much for PERM. I guess most people except post-docs will choose PERM now instead NIW.

PERM是2007年年底递上去的, 然后就被audit了两年. 年初的时候被HR告知悲剧了. 当
时本来也已经心灰意冷, 在公司换了一个部门, function变了一些, 而且升了一级.

谁知律师又来信说PERM被批了, 据说是当时悲剧的时候他们马上file了一个re-
consider, 现在说是要继续帮我file 140.  现在的问题是140申请的时候, 他们会看我
现在的部门和职位么?  我不太敢问律师, 就怕弄巧成拙.  140的check list都有哪些?
  如果需要submit简历的话, 我是不是改修改一下简历, 发给律师让他们用我这个?

Maybe they changed their policy again.
If it is so fast this year, then it is a super good news.
Anyway, I will not submit my perm in a short time, I only check it every several months.

Now, then, NIW becomes almost useless......

The date the I-140 is filed = 递交日。

approved = 批准日。

PERM我说的很清楚了，最近PERM很快。
历史上，08年前也很快。
08-10年大概是半年多。
audit另外考虑，audit个几年也有。

另。不要转载其他bbs上的东西来说明问题，这些东西不权威。
权威的是：
state dept
uscis
dol
这些部门的网站。
或者 USC CFR的citation 或者case law

Just checked some recent update, seems perm will only take 10 days now.
Then, the whole wait time will be waiting for 485 submit. Then 5 to 6 years for it.
If the additional spots was given to Chinese, we could have a big jump in Eb2, but not sure how much it will help us for now.

Just edited my wrong replies, sorry about any misleading.
Anyway, that's some good news for everyone. Then I can choose not to go to MUA to go NIW but choose any program offering H1B and then just PERM. Sounds like as least it will work for now.
