Partially, I agree with the author that leaders should somehow keep a positive image which represents relatively high ethical and moral standards, but they should not be forced to maintain such image all the time.
It is true that being a effective leader of any field, he should set up a comparatively good and admiring public image. A leader is to some extend be regarded as a role model under many circumstances. For instance, the highest political leader of country is a symbol of this nation to the outside world. Every
remark and hehavior of the leader represent the standing
and attitude of the whole nation. He would gain trust and respect only if he becomes the paragon of his people and with the authoratity he estabished through a public image which major people reverenced, he could better govern the country or get more votes during the election campaign. Another example lies in the business world. Imagine if a leader of a company is always idling around and frequently steal other companies' ideas and products, what will the employees of this company think and do? Certainly they will follow their boss's mode and doing nothing but copying illegally. One of the most significant reason for leaders to maintain high-standard morality is that it stimulates his fellow workers' morale which correlates to the benefit of the whole company.
However, it is common consensus that one could not be perfect. As a human-being, a leader should be allowed to have several flaws, more or less. In fact, we should distinguish the leader's public appearance with his private life which bears little connection. As a matter of the fact, several outstanding people in the history are not as perfect as we may thought of, but the flaws in ethics or morality do not exert much negative influence on them, compared with their great achievements. Take American presidents for example, a serial of US presidents are discovered to be unloyal to their marriage: Ronald Reagan, John Kennedy, even Rooservelt. The most reknown one is the affair between Bill Clinton and White House intern Lewinsky. All these scandals do have bad impact on their public image which reveal their inaquity in becoming moral models, but it can hardly overshadow their achievement in leading this great nation to prosperity. The statement actually ignores other important factors which may be the essencial factors in assessing a leader, such as talent, professional, communication skills and so forth.
In addition, every body is entitiled to possess their privacy. As a leader, he has no choice but living under spot light, but we should to some degree allow them to have some private space which should not be disrupted and violated. As long as they are talented to govern the nation and maintain a generally good image in front of the public, some immoral deeds should be tolerated. After all, leaders are actually normal people! Any deliberate exposure of their private life might be regarded as an attempt to defame the leaders ill-intentionally.
To sum up, leaders should be characteristic mainly for his talent to govern and management, and his high morality and ethics standard is also significant but nor indispensible. As long as his general public figure is positive, we should judge his effectiveness in several other aspects.

"A recent study of Dura-Sock wearers suggests that our company is wasting the money it spends on its patented "Endure" manufacturing process, which ensures that our socks are strong enough to last for two years. Dura-Sock has always advertised its use of the "Endure" process, but the new study shows that the average Dura-Sock customer actually purchases new Dura-Socks every three months. Furthermore, Dura-Sock customers surveyed in our largest market, northeastern United States cities, say that they most value Dura-Sock's stylish appearance and availability in many colors. These findings suggest that Dura-Sock can increase its profits by discontinuing its use of the "Endure" manufacturing process."

The author suggests that the Dura-Sock Company should abandon its use of "Endure" amnufacturing process to increase its profits. To substantiate the argument, the author cited some market responses. The argument appears to be convincing in the surface, however, further investigation reveals several logic flaws.
To begin with, the author fails out to rule out other possibilities that may contribute to the high frequency for customers to buy new socks other than the reason he indicates in the argument that the ineffectiveness of the "endure" process. As a matter of fact, it is highly possible that those customers are all big fans of the company, thus as long as the new type of socks released, they will go and purchase. The author unfairly assumes that the socks is in poor quality despite its "Endure" process, but it is also possible that customers are simply tired of wearing the same socks for a long period thus they seek for a new style which promote the increase in sale. Any of the circumstances mentioned above, if true, could serve to undermine the conclusion.
Secondly, the validity of the survey presented in the passage is open to doubt. For one thing, the number of the respondents and how they are chosen are not informed. without the confirmace of the radomness of the respondents, chances are that the chosen customers may happen to be young female customers who would naturally value the appearance and various colors most. lacking of representativeness, it is likely that other cusomers in this region may still focus on the endure quality of the socks.
Even assuming that the study report do lend credible support to the conclusion that it is the appearance and color other than its endure quality that attract buyers, rendering the "endure"manufacturing process needless, one cannot hastily come to the conclusion that discontinuing its use will help increase its profits. In fact, the cost of abandoning the old manufaturing process and introduing a new one or concentrating on inventing new stylish products may offsets or even far surplasses the revenue it brings. In addition, the decision of stopping using the "endure" process may result in a great loose in old customers who favor the enduring quality the process brings, thus the sale would decline significantly, giving a fatal hit to the whole sale.
To strengthen the argument, the author should present more advantages of the stylish appearance and disadvantages of the old manufacturing process.
