108"In many countries it is now possible to turn on the television and view government at work. Watching these proceedings can help people understand the issues that affect their lives. The more kinds of government proceedings—trials, debates, meetings, etc—that are televised, the more society will benefit."
I fundamentally agree with the speaker that watching how government proceeds can help people understand the issues that affect their lives, and that the more governmental work is televised, the more society will benefit, although it should admittedly (这里少了动词)that sometimes governmental emergent and confidential affairs(certain urgent or confidential affairs of government我会这样表达,才不会觉得形容词好多,个人意见:P) should be withheld from the public to deter a potential threat.
First and foremost, people are really the benefactors when opening the government proceedings. (people actually benefit from opening government proceedings )Nowadays, with the ever-growing development of the communication and information technologies, governmental affairs are no longer regarded as "Black box" which is only maneuvered by minority of government officials(authorities), on the contrary, they become increasingly transparent. By means of the coverage of television, people can clearly know how government handle the pressing issues, (少了and)how the laws and regulations are put into execution. Therefore, people can best understand the status quo(说是不是从G阅读学来的?呵呵,我也学了) of the world they live, and cognize the rules they should observe. For example, the national and international news programs in CCTV, often expose those pressing issues people concerned, and also review the public how government address them. Still, televising the entire process of the National Conference can help people know which leader is elected, how the laws are amended and instituted, and how the policies operate, etc. The first live report of the trails stirs up huge reverberation among people in China. Surprised as they are, they closely access the whole process of exerting the laws. In sum, televising government proceedings can help people understand the issues that affect their lives, including the social problems, governmental affairs and the laws, etc., based on which people can become more informative and live a better life.
Otherwise, as for the whole society, publicizing how the government operates also conduce to the social welfare. On the one hand, by observing the flaws and shortcomings of the governmental policies(government’s policies), people often become more active and willing to express their opinions and to participate in the relative policy-making of government, which really helps government holistically get know of (clearly understand)people's needs and thus perfect the policies at the best. Obviously, this is a character of any democratic society where all people have the right to take part in the politics. Under such circumstances, society undoubtedly will become more stable and prosperous. On the other hand, televising governmental proceedings can make government more wise and diplomatic. Under the supervision of the public, government officials would have to take the interest of the public in the first place all the time even sometimes at the expense of their private interest.(government officials, for keeping their authority, have to concern on public interest rather than their self-serving desires. )A government, with the scrutiny of its public(its people), will become more sagacious and fairness; A society, coupled with a wise and ever-handed government, will dearly march on the prosperous road.
Admittedly, sometimes,(sometimes应该不用) some proceedings should not televise to people such as some confidential matters that concern social security, some emergencies that perhaps result in chaos and panic among people, and also private lives of government officials. (Admittedly, some affairs, such as national defense secret, concerning national security should not be public. And some emergencies that perhaps….should keep private写成一句,句子才不会太长,个人意见:P) Although it is the responsibility of the government to keep them secret, this does not follow that government officials should take some exceptions as pretexts for their ulterior and illegal profits while keep all government affairs out of the mass. Otherwise, sometimes, under the cynosure of many mass media and field audiences, the judges will feel huge pressure which really affects them to make objective judgment(because of being limited by undue criticism and public opinion, the government, sustaining huge pressure, might make unfair judgment.)However, after a careful balance, the advantages of televising government proceedings take more ponderance (predominance?)over withholding them.
Generally speaking, the more the government proceedings are televised, the better people understand the affairs that impact their lives, and the more stable, peaceful and prosperous the society becomes. It is the duty of the government make itself transparent to face up the public challenges; it is also its duty not to publicize those can give rise to detrimental aftermaths.
