The lecturer argued about the negative effects of less reading literature on three aspects. He says the conclusion made in the reading passage was very inaccurate by comparing with what happened for real.


First, reading public should not
missing out intellectual stimulation due to decline in book reading, especially literature. Sorts of books have high qualities such as political analysis essay, history book and science. In other words,public readers can got a lot intellectual benefit form the books she mentioned above. This directly contradicts what the passage indicates.


Secondly, culture is changed and with different kinds in our daily life. The passage says mass/pop cultural is more popular in stead of reading literature, which could result in lower the level of culture. However, the lecturer argued there is always changing in culture. A good movie or a music radio is sample of another culture. It probably contents more benefits then literature book.. In addition, different culture suit different slandered. This conclusion once again contradicts the point made in the passage.


Thirdly, the decline of reading is not caused by the reader’s poor standards rather then the faults made by the modern literature authors. The lecturer says the Modern literature author intend to make their work hard to understand. Blaming the poor standard of reader is obviously unwise.
