Sorry, I can not reply your question about Part time and Full time. For international students, they should register as full-time student. This is an important policy after 9.11, because US do not want those terrorists register as part-time student so they have time to do something terrible. So you should pay attention to this. But you can apply to register part-time student due to some special matters, maybe such as some health problems. Anyway, consult with the international office in your school.

mashpotato, you are J2, right?  As a sevis manual says indirectly, a J2 can register under pending status. Additionally, there is not any regulation preventing J2 from going school on part-time basis.  So, even if you are part-time, that won't affect your status(shen1fen4) here.
