In the lecture, the professor disagreed with the idea that providing employees with the option of working four days a week can benefit the company or the overall country, which is the main idea of the reading passage.

Firstly, the reading passage indicates that this option can increase the company’s profit for the decrease of costly errors caused by over-stressed employees. However, the professor argues that it will not affect the profits because in this way, companies need more employees to work, thus the extra training fees and health services will raise the cost. In addition, hiring more employees requires more office space and more computers. These also contribute to the cost.

Secondly, the author of the reading passage suggests that it will reduce the unemployment rate. In the meantime, each employee will have to carry less workload. But the professor indicates that hiring new employees is costly so that it is less likely to hire new employees. What’s worse, some bosses may raise the expectations by pressuring them to finish five-day tasks within four days, which make the employees unpleasant.

Thirdly, the reading passage conveyed an idea that those who enjoy four-day week’s work can have more leisure time to spend on their individual cases, but the lecturer thinks that these workers have higher risks to lose their job and less chance of advancing than others since companies may prefer five-day workers to ensure some occupations that need continuous working, such as management or supervising.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement:
People should have hobbies and do physical activities that are very different from their own work. 10,4,10

I agree with the idea that people should have hobbies and do physical activities that are very different from their own work. The reasons are listed as follows.

First of all, a person’s work can never represent his/her whole life. A meaningful life ought to contain all kinds of activities besides career affairs. A person who only cares about his/her work cannot enjoy other elements of life such as family, friends, entertainment, etc. Cultivating some hobbies different from their own work may bring more enjoyment in one’s life. Suppose a person (not a musician, of course) who regards music as a hobby, he/she can relax himself/herself by listening or even composing music when he/she gets tired of work. Furthermore, he/she can share music with others to enjoy more.

What’s more, participate in the activities different from their own work helps to make good relationship between their family and colleagues and other friends. Actually, people may easily communicate about cases irrelevant to work. For instance, by talking about sports with family members or friends, they can easily communicate with each other because they are all familiar with it. However, talking with them about working affairs might not likely to have the same effect.

Another reason is that some tasks are integrated ones, which need not only knowledge or experience in their own working field. This means a person cannot confine their horizon within just their own fields. Thus hobbies and activities different from their work might be of great assistance. For example, a salesman’s job requires not only patience and communication skills, but a wide social acquaintance. In the process of different kinds of activities he/she may learn more about what he/she is not familiar with before. Also, he/she can handily make acquaintance of people with different personality or different demands. There is no greater benefit for him/her than that!

These reasons above all lead to the conclusion -- people would benefit a lot from having hobbies and activities different from their working fields.

今天是初稿

The lecture and the reading passage both focused on the issue about whether working as a team is beneficial or not. The lecture contradicts the reading passage in the following three ways.

First, the article maintains that working as a team would provide a wider range of knowledge and would work more efficiently, which seems to be incorrect according to the lecture. The lecturer told that every team member turned out to be lazier and did not contribute as much as expected. Plus, it is usually difficult for such a team come to an agreement. That means the project will run in low efficiency.

Moreover, the reading passage indicates that they would dare to make more risky decisions if working as a team. Nonetheless the fact is that some influential members in the team would drop these ideas without further discussing, according to the professor.

The third factor is about the personal feelings. The author of the article suggests each member in the team is rewarding, because they may feel better when his/her idea affects the process of the project. However, the professor indicated that this kind of “rewarding” can actually be ignored. To be worse, when it comes to failure, all the team members will be blamed, regardless of their individual attribution.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement:5
Working at home using computers or telephones is better than working in the office.

Thanks to the rapid development of modern science and technology, we can just stay at home to finish our work instead of going to the office. However, I think this kind of working cannot bring as many advantages as our imagination. The reasons can be concluded as follows.

First of all, working at home is unlikely to replace the traditional working style due to its inconvenience. We know that computers and telephones can send all kinds of files, as well as your voice and image. But there is one thing it can never do -- to convey real items such as devices and paper. Actually, these items are necessary for nearly all the jobs. For example, as signature or seals cannot be sent by computer or telephone, how can you deal with a formal file that need approving? So, it is far from enough to work at home only with the help of computers and phones. Thus it can never be substituted.

What’s more, working at home may lead to unpleasant emotional experience. As we know, we can have less chance to meet our colleagues if we all work at home. That does not sound a good idea. Because in general, less chance to meet means less communication, which is more likely to lead to loneliness. Suppose you have to do your work and check e-mails for eight hours a day facing your computer screens and documents. When you are tired, no one could be around you, and all you can do is working alone. However in the office, you can often chat with people during the break so that you are less likely to feel lonely.

Additionally, things can become worse if you work at home by computers for a long time -- it could harm your health. Compared to working in the office, you are supposed to spend more time with your computer, since that is not only a tool of working on your own tasks, but an essential tool to communicate with your boss and colleagues. That will make your eyes, muscles and other organs overstressed, which may have a negative effect on your health.

7月13日 综合 第一点听了3遍才听出来…………
The article comes up with some doubts that Rembrandt painted all the works himself. The lecturer indicates these doubts are unnecessary for the following reasons.

First of all, according to the reading passage, the inconsistency of woman dressing in the portrait reveals that it may not be painted by the same artists. However, the lecturer mentioned that the fur collar was added later by other artists in order to value the woman, but not what Rembrandt painted in his original work.

Another doubt the author put forward is about the light and shadow should have been used in the paintings if it was painted by Rembrandt. Nonetheless the professor indicates that the woman is actually wearing in a simple light color, if later modification is not considered, which can show no shadow when illuminated.

Finally, the artist’s painting on a panel made of different pieces of wood can also be explained. To make the work greater and more valuable, the artists have to paint on different pieces of wood, for there is no wood of that size. It can be proved Rembrandt’s work by the similarity of the tree where the wood in another work of his comes.

Which is better, challenging plans about one's future or practical plans about one's future?

Every ambitious person has plans for his/her future life. Some are practical, which is more likely to achieve by working hard, while others seem challenging. In my point of view, these practical plans can benefit more for a person’s future than the challenging ones. The reasons come from the following aspects.

First of all, practical plans are easier to realize, as mentioned above. You can reach your goals by working step by step practically, which is easier than challenging ones. For instance, a college student who intends to start his/her business career may choose to internship and work for a company, or to own a business of himself/herself. The latter plan, which is apparently the challenging one, is considered more complex, with much more experience and financial support required, compared to the former plan.

Furthermore, in the process of following practical plans, one will feel a sense of safety. Unlike challenging plans, which contain more risks of failure, practical ones are more stable because it is handier to predict what the next stage is like. Just like house construction, in which the base must be built, then the first floor, second floor, etc. Before each part of the work is completed, you can easily imagine what it would be like. However a challenging plan is like venturing in the forest, you will never know what you will encounter. That will be unpleasant and fearful for most people.

Finally, it requires less effort to get advice and assistance. As we know, without the help of others, we are less likely to succeed in nearly all fields, for difficulties seem inevitable in everyone’s live. Since most people do in a practical way, it is of more possibility to receive helps and suggestions from people with similar situations. Additionally, you will not feel alone when you face difficulties. That means you have more chance to overcome these barriers. Such emotional assistant can sometimes play an important role in the way of pursuing success.

First of all, practical plans are easier to realize, as mentioned above. You can reach your goals by working step by step practically(practically 实际上、几乎、简直,都不太符合你的意思), which is easier than challenging ones. For instance, a college student who intends to start his/her business career may choose to internship(它好像是个名词) and work for a company, or to own a business of himself/herself. The latter plan, which is apparently the challenging one, is considered more complex, with much more experience and financial support required, compared to the former plan.
我觉得这个例子不错呀~实用又贴切~

来而不往非礼也~
