"Most people would agree that buildings represent a valuable record of any society's past, but controversy arises when old buildings stand on ground that modern planners feel could be better used for modern purposes. In such situations, modern development should be given precedence over the preservation of historic buildings so that contemporary needs can be served."

There always exists a heated discussion about whether to preserve those old buildings or to pull them down so as to give way to modern ones. In my point of view, anicient buildings are worth preserving but only to a comparativerly small exntent. It is the modern development that should be given precedence over the preservation of historic buildings so that our present society can be more advanced and prosperous

Admittedly, historic buildings and relics are important to a nation. It represents a nation’s glorious history, progresses ever made, and their people’s talent and dilegence. Every person of that nation should have the right to admire these fabulous heritage handed down to them by their ancestors. They are not only helpful in instill patriotism to the people’s mind but also symbolic in representing a nation. With these exquisite achievement in the history, that nation’s international reputation will be greatly reinforced. As is known to all, the UNESCO is selecting ancient ruins and buildings thoroughout the world to name them “the World Cultural Heritage”. If a particular site in a country is fortunate enough to be chosen, all people of the country will be very proud. At the meantime, local tourism will also benefit a lot from foreign tourists flooding in to admire the miracle.

However, not all old buildings should be preserved. It is true that historic ruins and famous buildings, whose number is very limited, should be preserved. But apart from that, there are still many more old buildings which used to be very ordinary in the past and have no more practical value, both morally and economically, at present. These old ones are not worth preserving at all. Just like old toys should be discarded by children, these buildings ought to be pulled down and thus giving way to the more modern and multi-functional buildings. Nowadays, lands are precious because of their limited number. The present situation is that population on the earth is increasing at an unbelievable speed and moreover, our people’s needs and interests are very much diversified, more lands are to be used to restore the natural environment, etc., any of which can make the action of retaining the dilapidated buildings a game not worth the candle.

Some critics, who are againgst replacing old buildings with modern ones, may argue that preserving old buildings can reappear the bygone days. I think their dubbing these dilapidation as historic sites is absurd. We should not bury ourselves deep in the good old days, rather we should look forward. If we stick too much to old things, we will never think of the future. Actually it is tomorrow that will come, not yesterday. As a result, we should build more modern buildings. On one hand, our building actions can boost the economy of society as well as solving the most urgent social problem of the day—population explosion. On the other hand, when we are trying our best to build modern buildings which will certainly outlive the historic sites nowdays, we are, in fact, erecting monuments or landmarks which will also be the precious heritage we leave to our descendancy centuries after to admire us.

1,your ablility of reasoning impresses me most, yet more example than what is illustrated in this essay should be provided for any assertion loses its weight if no cases are found avaible.

你的写长句的skill我要好好学习,但是觉得你这片文章深度不够, 尤其第二段的理由,如果是对我似乎没有什么说服力.我在文中看到下面这句:
On one hand, our building actions can boost the economy of society as well as solving the most urgent social problem of the day—population explosion.

In my point of view, anicient buildings are worth preserving but only to a comparativerly small exntent. Admittedly, historic buildings and relics are important to a nation. It represents a nation’s glorious history, progresses ever made, and their people’s talent and dilegence. Every (我喜欢ANY呵呵)person of that nation should have the right to admire these fabulous heritage handed down to them (by their ancestors总不是后人吧). They are not only helpful in instill(ing) patriotism to the people’s mind but also symbolic in representing a nation. With these exquisite achievement in the history, that nation’s international reputation will be greatly reinforced. As is known to all, the UNESCO is selecting ancient ruins and buildings throughout the world to name them “the World Cultural Heritage”(in order to ……………..).

But apart from that, there are still many more old buildings which used to be very ordinary(换个词比较好trivial or commonplace) in the past and have no more practical value, both morally and economically, at present(你好现实哦). These old ones are not worth preserving at all. Just like old toys should be discarded by children, these buildings ought to be pulled down and thus giving way to the more modern and multi-functional buildings. Nowadays, lands are precious because of their limited number. The present situation is that population on the earth is increasing at an unbelievable (unexampled) speed, and moreover, our people’s needs and interests are very much diversified, more lands are to be used to restore the natural environment, etc., any of which can make the action of retaining the dilapidated buildings a game not worth the candle.(其实写的还是不错,就是感情上不太接受)

Some critics, who are againgst replacing old buildings with modern ones, may argue that preserving old buildings can reappear the bygone days. I think their dubbing these dilapidation as historic sites is absurd. We should not bury ourselves deep in the good old days, rather we should look forward. If we stick too much to old things, we will never think of the future.(换换句子吧,这里WE太多了,sticking too much to old things will help noting but prevent us thinking of the future) Actually it is tomorrow that will come, not yesterday. (感觉怪怪的)As a result, we should build more modern buildings. On one hand, our building actions can boost(哦哦,学到一点,谢谢) the economy (of society) as well as solving the most urgent social problem of the day(请教,为什么不用today?会比较好吗?你的这个用法我没有用过,请指教)—population explosion. On the other hand, when we are trying our best to build modern buildings which will certainly outlive the historic sites nowadays, we are, in fact, erecting monuments or landmarks which will also be the precious heritage we leave to our descendancy centuries after to admire us.
