PHD POSITION IN THE DESIGN AND SYNTHESIS OF
METAL-ORGANIC FRAMEWORKS

Applications are invited for a PhD position in the group of Dr Shane Telfer, Institute
of Fundamental Sciences, Massey University, New Zealand. The project will focus
on the design, synthesis, and characterisation of metal-organic frameworks. The
position is ideal for a student wishing to acquire expertise in a range of areas:
synthetic chemistry, crystallography, and materials characterisation. Funding for this
work has been provided by the RSNZ Marsden Fund.

The annual stipend will be at least NZ$24,000 (tax-free) for a period of three years
and student fees will be paid in addition. All research will involve collaborations with
other research groups both in New Zealand and abroad, and there will also be
opportunities for travelling to international conferences.

The position is based at the Palmerston North campus of Massey University.
Palmerston North is a small, student-centred city, two hours north of the capital city,
Wellington. The city lies on the Manawatu River, within thirty minutes of the coast,
and in close proximity to a wide variety of outdoor activities and attractions.

Qualifications: An Honours/Masters degree in the Sciences or equivalent,
enthusiasm and self-motivation
Experience: A background in synthetic chemistry is essential.
Start Date: As soon as possible.
