Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: If parents want their children to do well at school, they should limit the time their children spend on watching TV.
With the development of economy, most family could afford TVs. Watching TV has become one of the most important entertainments in our daily life, especially for children, who usually spend lots of time watching cartoons and movies. There is an argument that whether adult should limit children watching TV. On my perspective, I am quite in favor of this statement.
First of all, it may be harmful to children's study if they spend too much time on TV. Though it is reasonable for children to have entertainments, too much time on TV absolutely should be limited. It costs their time which should be spent on their studies. For example, once I fascinated the play Friends, then I began not to finish my homework in time and stayed up until mid-night which leaded to doze in the class. What's worse, even being clear-minded in the class, I still recalled the contents in the play rather than listened to the teacher. Of course, after I enjoyed the interesting play, I made a really bad performance during the exams that year which leaded my parents limit my time watching TV.
Furthermore, children’s physical health will also be hurt if they spend too much time on TV. On one hand, it harms our eyesight to staring TVs for a long time. For example, when I was 10 years old, my parents bought me a color television which made so happy. I almost spent all my free time on it and as a result, just 4 month later, I found the words on the blackboard were vague to me. I will never forget that thing that when I was 12 years old, I become myopia and wore a glass. On the other hand, the time children spent on sports will also decreases as most of their time were spent before TV sets which will obviously be harmful to their hearth.
Finally, it is also injurious for children's critical thinking. When watching TV, children often act as receptors. They have no time to ask as there is no interruption during a TV play. They only receive what they heard and see on TVs without thinking whether the opinions on TVs are right or not.
For instance, my sister often told me comments on some news. When I asked her why she thought so, she told me the TV says it. Of course, she learned more information than before, but she is also losing her own minds, her critical thinking.
In sum, it is appropriate for parents to control children's time spent on TV as it is harmful to their studies, physical health and critical thinking. |
