10"Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive, because it is primarily in cities that a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated."
Questions about the rural areas and major cities have been going along whole of the national history. In modern society, more and more people are accumulating in cities from various backgrounds of quite different cultural traditions. By the case, some one believes that cultural traditions are primarily in cities and hence need the financial support from government to preserve them. Nevertheless, the truth today is different from what they held before.
I must firstly concede that major cities truly did possess some cultural traditions at former ages like Rome to Italy, Athens to Greece and Paris to France. However, since most modernizations and globalization take place in the major cities especially the economical and industrial centers, many of them have been changed to some homogenized and modern ways of living. Take the wedding for example, though many people in China and Japan do not have the belief of Catholicism, young couples in major citied are prefer to marry at church in the western style. The fact shows that cultural traditions are diminishing in big cities. Though the public has realized that traditions should be saved, the fighting field should not be cities any more.
On the other hand, rural areas still preserve most of the conventions because two reasons below. Firstly, cultural traditions are formed from experiences in working and living, the suspecting and explanations to natural mysterious phenomena, and then brought to cities by immigrates. So majority of them in cities are from the rural areas, such as folklores and religions. Beijing opera, one of the treasures of the world, is just from the rural villages around Beijing. Moreover, due to the less influences put to the suburban places from outside, people there still live in an old form as hundreds years ago, especially, in the developing countries. By the case, to protect the traditions, the financial support should be paid to the rural areas rather than cities.
Besides the analysis above, another factors need to be taken in account over the question of financial support is that in many developing countries, rural areas not only the places of cultural traditions but also always the home of poverty. Since most investments whether from civil firms or over-sea companies often go to the flourish cities, the lack of money has puzzled the countryside for a long time. If the financial support also went to major cities, living conditions of countries would surely go down to a worried level that may harm the whole stability of the society.
Though major cities in country used to accumulate amount of cultural traditions, rural areas now is the center of these conventions. For the preservation of traditions and to avoid breaking the balance of possessions of different places, government's financial support should go to the rural districts.
