agree, especially with the first half... profs. as highly educated people, always just try to act "nice"... or in another word... "professional"... they say they don't care doesn't mean they mean it ( i know it sounds weird).... if you take them seriously they will eventually get fucked off...

First of all, it is really, really not a big deal. We give the student a deadline and he needs to make decisions before the deadline. That's it. The purpose of having a deadline is for professors to know if the student is coming or not. If he doesn't, it is totally fine and we understand the student wants to go to a better place. There is always a backup list.

Secondly, I found Chinese students are terrible at writing emails. In particular, they have no idea about how to be polite in emails. As a result, people get pissed off not because what they are asking for, but because how they speak in the email. It is kinda annoying and I guess it's 99% of reason causing those troubles.

After all, who cares about a student (who you have no idea he is) asking for offer anyway? There are plenty of things we have to care about already. If something makes you angry, there must be a very solid reason.

但是需要明确一点的是，415或者其他的回复学校的截止日期是学生的权利。在这个deadline前你没有义务告诉学校任何决定（虽然如果确定不去某校的话，作为礼貌，应该早日明确的回绝他们以给其他人机会）。所有的学校包括老板都知道你在考虑，他们不会强迫你承诺什么的。
所以合适的办法是礼貌的告诉老板，我已经收到了其他学校的答复，现在距离我做决定的期限已经很近了，但是我还没有收到你们的决定。我需要基于各方面的决定来做出最好的选择，而你们是否录取我对于我的判断非常重要。一旦我做出了最后的决定我会尽快的通知您……blabla
