In the argument, the author made aconclusion that people in Clearview should vote for Ann Green, a member of GoodEarth Coalition, instead voting for Frank Braun who worked for Clearview towncouncil for the reason that Frank was not protecting the environment ofClearview. But several flaws have occurred in the argument which weak theconvincing of this passage.
To begin with, the author mentioned thatthe air pollution level have increased because the number of factories inClearview has doubled, which means that author believed that it was thefactories made the air worse. But there's no specific data to indicate thepollution caused by the factories was affecting the air pollution level. Theraised air pollution level may cause by the increasing number of automobiles ordecreasing number of green plants. In addition, though the local hospital hastreated 25 percent more patients with respiratory illnesses, there's still nodirect evidence to prove these patients' illnesses were caused by the pollutionof factories.
Moreover, the author's claim that if thepeople elect Ann Green, the environment problems in Clearview will be certainlysolved fell into another fallacy. Maybe the author's idea came from anenvironment protection plan made by Ann Green, the experience of Ann Green inenvironment protection or other related information, however, none of thosementioned above was given in the passage, which made the conclusion was simplybased on an assumption.
Besides, the author failed to discuss whatthe priority mission of the mayoral of Clearview is. Throughout the passage, the author thought that protecting the environment was the most necessary ofClearview, but again, the author didn't provide detail information to supporthis idea. Maybe the economy in Clearview was poor and should be considered todevelop first.
