130"How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."
I fundamentally agree with the speaker on the threshold assertion that how children are socialized today determines the destiny of society, and admittedly the ways of educating children have been in controversy and still are not so perfect. Nevertheless, an increasing number of educators and parents are realizing the importance of well raising children and already take some necessary actions to do this.
Undoubtedly, children are the future of a society, and determine its destiny. In this competitive era, more and more countries realize this point. What they put much emphasis is the next generations but not the contemporary elites. Although some people may argue that today's development and advances are most responsible for the scientists and experts, so most attention should be given to them. However, it is not the case at all. Will they represent the future of a society? Definitely not. Many of them already lose their initiative and creativity but still in some important positions of scientific and technological fields where creative and imaginative abilities are requested and imperative. Hence, only the infusion of the young power can these organizations and even the society reinstate their passion and vitality. This is why Japanese pay much emphasis on the education of the youth.
However, some educational system seems to hinder our children's development. Based on the rigid and vacuous regulations, what many teachers do is only stuffing voluminous book knowledge into children's mind, on the contrary, the creative ability, the thinking skills and the out-of-class experience are seriously neglected by these so-called "the instructors of human's soul". What they cultivate at last are only bookworms without any survival faculties such as the incisive thoughts, the expertise, the communication ability, and so on. This is why many managers and officials complain that seldom are newcomers--the graduates--qualified for their positions because of the lack of professional knowledge and cooperating skills.
Fortunately, things are not so bad. An increasing number of parents, teachers and even the national regulators realize the importance of how to raise the children. Many parents start their cultivation before the child's nativity--so-called prenatal education, once their baby borns, they will develop it physically and spiritually, including the cognitive ability, literacy, communication ability, and also the healthy body and mind. As for teachers, they pay much more attention to cultivate students' true abilities: critical thinking, morality etc.. Most of them come to realize the Jefferson's words, education should highlight both the faculties and the moralities of their students. When it comes to the educational regulators, they also strive to improve the environments that their next generations are schooled. We can not go very far to see this point by examining the recent reformations they conducted in the educational systems nowadays.
All in all, the youth are the sun of a country, and the flowers of a society that should be paid much more attention and deserve more our resources. But the situation is not so pessimistic as the speaker claims, the importance of cultivating students is increasingly stressed, and the youngsters can be educated all-round and informative ones in the near future.
