OK,We’ve been talkedtalking about the early agriculture in the near east, so let’s concentrate on one side and see whatwe can learn from it. let’s lock on look at catalhoyuk.ah…``,I ‘d better to 去towrite that down,`catalhoyuk``. That’s about as close as we get in English. It’s Turkish ,really. the sites in modern day.turkey ,and who knows was their originals and inhabitance callwhat the original inhabitants called it.,anyway,```was not the first agriculture agricultural settlement in the near east, but it was pretty early. settled about 9000 years ago, in the Neolithic` period. And …um…the settlement…ah… ,a去a town actuallyreally ,lasted about 1000years,and grow grewto a size ofabout 8 or 10 thousand people.that certainly makes it one of the largest towns in the world at that time.
One of the things that makes the settlement of this size impressive is the time period. It’s the neolithicnear remember, the late stone age the``,so the peoplethat lived there had only stone tools no metals,so everything they can qu canaccomplished, like building this town ,they did with just stone plus wood ,breedbricks, that’s all the thing.that sort of thingbut you got to remember that it wasn’t just anystone they hadget ,they got obs``they had obsidian.and…umm…`,obsidian``is a black ,vocanianvolcanic, well ,almost like glass.it flakes very nicely into veryreally sharp points. the sharpest tools of the entire stone age were was made of ob``.and urrr…the people in of catalhoyuk got theirs from further inland from central city.turkey, trade for it ,probably.
it’s very nice into very sharp tools. |
