Today, there are many methods, through which, people can get instruction such as internet, television and all kinds of institutions rather than books. So in my opinion, if people want to get educated, less effort should be made than in the past.
First of all, different methods provide different people in various ages or professions with convenient access to information and knowledge. Children like to watch TV, and they could learn a lot from program such as "National Geographic" and "English Salon". Adults like to watch news on TV, read magazine talking about health, and newspaper. The old usually enjoys reading newspaper or listening to the radios. Comparatively, in the past the methods are limited, people who want to get knowledge have to read books or newspaper. People, who hate reading, would have barriers to learn.
Secondly, advanced technology, like internet, accelerates the transmission of knowledge, brings people together and make it easy for them to communicate and learn from each other. This is easy to understand if one professor wants to get some current research information in certain area, they can surf the internet to check scientific websites to read periodicals. However, in the past, people have to wait a long time and read paper work.
In addition, the use of multimedia enable teacher to display knowledge in a easier and more clear way, through which, students could be inspired and learn a more efficient way. In the past, teacher has to give presentation by writing with chalk on the blackboard; there is no picture or video. However, today, PPT makes their presentation more orderly and interesting. For example, in a English class, we could enjoy some movies to learn English, which is really helpful to our spoken English.
In sum, some people may cast doubts on my viewpoint by arguing that the development of internet causes people to lose their focus and too much unsubstantiated information misleads people and waste their time. Admittedly, some people cannot find their orientations on the internet. However, dealing with a large amount information is a indispensible ability in information age, and with this ability, I believe knowledge is more accessable today than in the past. |
