版上有人拿到top5的offer吗？进来吼一声吧，让大家仰望一下

如果个别人确实是非常明确想研究Wharton老师做的那几个niche，那我还是表示理解一下吧。。。如果不是的话，那就令人费解。一般来说，任何top 10 econ>>Wharton econ，top 20>Wharton econ。当然，这只是我个人判断，欢迎不同意见～
大概的判断方法就是去看一下他家faculty去掉 1. 老的deadwood 2. 只管教MBA不搞研究 3.走了的（Wolfers等），他的faculty水准到底如何。然后看一下他家placement。

wow，不至于不至于吧，Wharton AE 不到top20 econ？我觉得不可能。我认识好几个拒掉top10去那的呢。Like I would choose Wharton AE over Penn anytime.

两位说的是Booth和Wharton的econ还是finance？finance的话两家都是top 5。econ的话都不是，特别是wharton，他家的applied economics group不能和任何top 20经济系相比。现在Wolfers夫妇也不在了，placement应该会更差 ...

wharton finance肯定没top 5的， 那个placement比AE（之前拆开的几个项目）好不到哪里去， MIT, Harvard, Chicago, Stanford, Stern, Haas, UCLA, Kellogg, Columbia一大堆学校都比wharton finance好

我记得dyiwang在一个帖子里面说比较公认的top 5是
MIT Princeton Havard Chicago和Stanford

不过他也说这个东西大家各有各自的看法，肯定有主观的因素的

You've got to be kidding me. UChicago ECON PhD怎么也是Top5的水平, 别不服. Econ一年也能发超过50个Offer or Ad w/o funding, class size 少说也得30.  Booth Econ 现在总学生数才10个人,每年才两个, full funding, 整个Booth funding除了HBS根本没有别的学校可以beat (38K Fellowship). Booth econ可以任选Finance faculty/courses, 可以任选Econ faculty/courses, 反过来econ department就不能任选Booth的. 你跟我说Booth Econ不行?

经济系的水平和他收多少学生没啥必然关系。你可能对芝加哥博士生培养的理念不了解。他们的培养观念和原则和其他前5的学校不一样。更愿意给那些背景中有伤的申请者一个证明自己的机会，所以会录取的人很多。第一年淘汰50%。然后从竞争中选拔。芝加哥的师资，科研成果，phd毕业的去向，对经济学领域的影响，都是泰山北斗级别。所以你只用class size什么的太片面了。我不是芝加哥的博士。但是所有前五学校毕业后如果能去芝加哥教书，都是明星级人物。芝加哥毕业的经济学博士也都在市场上是抢手货。前提是你可以毕业。以后慢慢的你就会了解了。倒是你再回来看看现在的这个帖子，你会觉得自己的观点简直”no law to see"

I was not just talking about class size. I was talking about funding, faculty-to-student ratio and resources students could get. In whatever sense Chicago Booth Econ dominates Chicago Econ, or you could just make  informed decisions.

Just ask  the current students whether they would like to transfer to another program if there ever exists such an opportunity. I bet you won't get any support on what you were saying.

王老师在芝加哥大学还是很多同学朋友的，里面不乏拿到经济学博士的人，所以还是谨慎些，找靠谱翔实的论据

我只知道我们系那个Booth的大神能秒很多PhD半条街。。。Booth感觉还是蛮强的，特别是计量和定价之类方向，绝对是顶级的。

Chicago Econ is much tougher and more competitive than other top 5 econ PhD programs. So if given the choice, many people at Chicago might prefer somewhere else, but the true stars will not move. Like I said earlier, many students accepted to Chicago's Econ Phd also didn't get into other top 5 programs because their background wasn't perfect one way or another. But they still believe that they are top 5 material, and I personally think it's good that at least Chicago gives them the oppourtunity to prove themselves rather than ruling them out completely like the rest of the top programs. Either way, you are entitled to your opinion, but none of our opinions really matter. I'll wait until US News changes Chicago's ranking.
