The absence of choice is a circumstance that is very, very rare.

People often take for granted that, no matter what condition they are facing of, there are certain forms of choice and as the speaker asserts the absence of choice is a circumstance that is very, very rare. In fact, as far as I am concerned, people’s choosing is not a simple process which is often limited by various factors including the objective condition, the moral and emotional requirements.

First of all, in spite the our lasting efforts, people’s behavior can not break away the limitation of nature. In the ancient times, when the technology and science were still staying in a relatively poor condition, much of people’s behavior should take into account of the natural factors, otherwise mankind would failed almost in every aspects such as agriculture, commerce and transportation. The most understandable example is that they could not choose when to plant their crops or what to plant in their farmland but according to the climate and geological factors. Under that condition, it is hard for people to expect for their own choice but abbey the rule of nature. Now days, with the rapid progress of technology and science, people could have much better charge of their own life and behavior than before. However, it is equally important for people today to recognize the limitation of their knowledge and ability and only by that could we make further development.

Besides the absence of choice when we come across the limitation of nature, as a component of the society, one’s choice is also influenced by his social obligation. Although we are instilled a sense of individual responsibility from our childhoods, as a matter of fact, individuals should undertake their social obligations which are the symbols of their mature and the premise of development of a society. Therefore, when we make some choice, what we should necessarily consider is whether our choices conform to the requirements of the whole society and whether they are legal in terms of the moral standards although with in the laws. For instance, the chemistry scientists who were asked to research the nuclear weapons by the Naze had the single choice that is to say no considering the great damages the weapons would bring to the world. Similarity, if a company intends to invest a new plant which would generates enormous containment to the environment, what is the choice of its executive? I promise that the only answer of the executive to this question is to give up because of the benefits of whole society. Accordingly, we can easily see that the social characteristics of a person place limitation on his choice.

Finally, the nature of humanity and the emotional requirement also play a significant role in influencing the people’s choice. Today, more and more attention is paid on the nature of humanities: we are characteristic of emotion which makes us unable to be regardless of our family, our friends and our love when making choice. As it is illustrated by the famous Hoolywood film “The Titanic”: people who male character Jack who have opportunities to choice whether live or dead. However, for his love, he can only give up the chance.

In conclusion, as it is discussed above, the speaker oversimplifies the process of choice. The emotion of humanities and the relationship between them are so complex that we should take into consideration so many factors that result the difficulty of our choices.
