17. "There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws."
In every society, laws are established to control the everyday behavior of ordinary people, If the people judge the laws with their own will, and to obey the ones they consider just and resist the ones that of the unjust, what would the society be like, it would be fallen into confusion. I strongly disagree with the viewpoint in this issue.
As to a society, laws are measurements constructed to restrict the common people and thus keep the society in peace and prosperous, due to this character laws must be made to benefit the majority citizens and avoidless will sure to damage some people’s profit, thus the public will differ in considering the justification and unjustification of the laws because of paying attention to their own interests. Justice is in eyes of the beholders, whose attitudes and opinions on what is right and wrong diversify greatly, thus the judgement on whether a specific law is just or unjust varies. Thus given the actual translation of the words into action and the situation that people resist what the regard as unjust, no law is valid and justifiable, which will lead to breach of laws and further destruct the fabrication of society, with chaos ensuing. For instance, if the merchants refuse to pay taxes, which are used in education and welfare such bring the old and orphan and clean the city and pay the police to govern the society ect, just because paying taxes will let the merchants gain less money. If the pubic all like the merchants who considers their own interests then the world will not be integrity, in this case, laws much be enforced them to obey no matter justice or unjustice the merchants consider them to be.
The lacking of uniformity of laws does not hamper people’s intention to improve the justice system, although direct disobedience and resistance is not recommended. In the human being history, laws is growing follow a principle from faultiness to gradual integrity, in this process many people contributes their wisdom and hard work and even lose lives, because the laws in the early times was established by the emperor who has the absolute authority, and the laws constructed to satisfied his benefits and sometimes the wisdom emperor would like to make his laws perfect and more reasonable he enabled many people working day and night due to their endeavor the laws are more just than before. In the contrary some people considered his laws to be unjust and would like to amend it would sure to be had his head cut off. But this does not frighten the brave who presented the profits of common people, they struggled with government for just. Alternative approached, which are not so radical, can be adopted to accomplish the goal of amelioration. Trough legislation reforms, for example people can access the better execution of justice, without deviation from the law. After all, once the law were passed and put into effect, laws are expected to be obeyed to make sure the security and serenity of the society.
Different society have different problems and different criteria for judging the justice of the laws, thus it is not proper to tell people which is the unjust laws to disobey or not if the certain condition of concerned society is not fully considered. The concept of justice should be definite first in order to discuss the problems.
In conclusion, what we should do is to try our best to make the laws benefits the people to the greatest extent, thus more people will consider them just. Laws can help a society to gain continuous prosperity and serenity because the society with the most integrity laws always promote their economic and political development. |
