Does science refute religion?
With the rapid development of people'sknowledge about the natural world, religion seems to be completely wiped outfrom our mainstream conversation. What's more, under the escort of modernsystematic education, most advanced intellectuals appear to be rather fed upwith things lacking coherence in self-explanatory capability and pursue thosewhich seem more rational. However, I firmly believe science and religion, thesetwo types of knowledge, do not conflict each other but rather compliment thedrawbacks and enhance the other one.
Science is a sort of knowledge based onrationalization and its core is experiment and being independent of the observersand experimenters--as long as the circumstances and parameters are the samewith the previous one, that is meeting the demand of accuracy, the resultswould be completely within our prediction with expected deviations. Forinstance, Newton put forward his Three Laws regarding to motion of objects andall of us can reproduce this kind of experiment and expect to witness a ratherprecise result, such as velocity and relative acceleration.
Meanwhile, religion helps us to understandourselves and try to construct a system of rules ensuring the welfare of themajority. Christian teach us to respect others’ ideas and decisions, Hinduism demand that we should all help oneanother whenever in trouble or need and Taoism
emphasizes living in harmony with other people and thenatural world. Sometimes they might seem to originate fromnothing and be in contradiction with one another, but what matters most is thatthey offer a possibility for us human beings to believe, to love and to stayunited when trouble and catastrophe sweep. What's more, these ideas offer tokeep track of our custom and tradition throughout our history, and nothing daregainsay these contributions. So although differences do exist, each of them doeshelp people with both sublime and mundane affairs.
Of course, the basic premises of these twoare not the same. But difference does not inevitably draw in conflicts. Case isthat the history has witnessed enormous examples when these two sorts of thingsenhance each other. Whenever a professor is in trouble deciphering certainphenomenon which seems rather eccentric or even ridiculous, they will try totake resort to religion to help them return peace in mind, listening to religionmusic or reading stories of sagas perhaps, and return with more enthusiasm anddevotion. Science helps religion to cut out those parts which ultimately impedethe development of human's causes and broaden our horizon, enhancing thecompetence of religion in giving explanations of the world. In return, religionhelps to make people believe virtue things and choose to love and be dedicatedin things which attract and benefit us, including scientific pursue.
As is given above, science and religiongive explanations to rather different parts of the natural world and spiritualside. It is their combination that enables our development of such an advancedand prosperous civilization within which it is likely to reflect on issuesconcerning the relationship of science and religion.
