7.9 Independence
do you agree or disagree with the following statement: children should have similar jobs with you.
Many parents tend to force their children to engage in jobs similar with them. But in my opinion, it’s unjust and inappropriate to shape children in their parents’ way.
It’s unjust for children if they have to choose similar jobs with their parents. Everyone is unique in the world, and nobody’s future should be decided by others. For example, Newton’s mother had expected him to be a peasant, thanks to god, Newton didn’t listen to his mother and insisted on reading and thinking. Eventually, his uncle sent him to a school and then he became an extraordinary scientist who changed the whole world. Newton may be lucky, because there are still many children who are forced to accept jobs similar to their parents, which they don’t like any more. Someone may argue that children who have similar jobs with their parents have advantages over those who come from a family unfamiliar with the job. But in my opinion, children without interest on their jobs can hardly do better than those who really like their jobs.
Second, family members with similar jobs are not appropriate for the development of the children even the whole society. We all know that enormous innovations have coming from collision of various fields. For example, the plane, which is a precise machine simulating the birds, needs cooperation from physics and biology. Similar jobs in a family may mean similar ideas, which may impede the development of children.
All parents want their children to be successful, making children choose similar jobs with them may be a way to protect them and help them because parents are familiar with these jobs. However, children have rights to choose their lives. Furthermore, only by doing a job really fits them could the children be successful. So as far as I’m concerned, children shouldn’t have similar jobs with their parents if they don’t really enjoy the jobs.
