152) The following appeared in a memo to the board of directors of Bargain Brand Cereals.
One year ago we introduced our first product, Bargain Brand breakfast cereal. Our very low prices quickly drew many customers away from the top-selling cereal companies. Although the companies producing the top brands have since tried to compete with us by lowering their prices and although several plan to introduce their own budget brands, not once have we needed to raise our prices to continue making a profit. Given our success in selling cereal, we recommend that Bargain Brand now expand its business and begin marketing other low-priced food products as quickly as possible.
Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the recommendation and the argument on which it is based are reasonable. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the recommendation.

The author has made a recommendation to reduce the price of other products as quickly as possible. There are many questions that should be answered. If the author has answered these questions, the author's suggestion should be a viable option in the long term.

The author should answer the questions about the reason of drawing consumers from other cereal companies. In reality, it is quite possible that the services of Bargain Brand Cereals are much better than the other top-selling cereal companies. The salesperson may be very friendly and offer viable options for the consumers of various ages. In the end, consumers tend to trust the salesperson from Bargain Brand Cereals. However, other companies' salesperson may not be so friendly and consumers feel frustrated by their services. If reducing the price is not the reason of the increase of sales of Bargain Brand Cereals, the recommendation of lowering the price will not be wise.

More answers should be given in regard to the possibility of competition from other companies. If the reason of drawing consumers of Brargain Brand Cereals' products is the better services, the author has to answer whether the other companies have improved their services. If their salespersons have dramatically ameliorated their services, the competition from other companies is quite likely. Besides, even if the service is not the main reason of the difficulties, more answers should be offered in regard to other companies' reduction of prices. If they have cut their prices very slightly or just among the lunch or supper products, they may not draw adequate consumers. However, if they cut their prices greatly of their breakfast cereal, the competition will be quite possible among these companies.Furthermore, the Bargain company may suffer greatly if the other companies have made advertising greatly. They may advertise among the potential consumers. If Bargain Brand Cereals has done nothing to tackle the situation, the share of market will drop.

Moreover, the answers ought to be offered in terms of the application of the policy granted that the low-priced products are successful to compete against other companies. For example, the other companies may concentrate on the lunch or supper food very much. Their prices are very low for these products. In this way, Bargain Brand Cereals to produce the lunch and supper food is not wise. Besides, the answers should also be given concerning the adequate financial support for these expansions. If Bargain Brand Cereals is short of money, expanding such business is not possible in reality even though the plan might be sound.

To sum up, the above questions should be answered so as to offer an adequate judgement of the market. The competition from other companies and expansion of this low-priced policy should be taken into serious account.

。。我一直以为这题的厂商是把东西卖给超市,然后超市再卖的那种。。。。
