It is basically true that people worship differences and diversity more greatly than they did ever before. Look the youth; they are the telling example to illustrate this trend for differences. Especially in some traditional countries, like China, as a citizen of China, we youth believe that it is differences and diversities that drive innovation and progress effectively. We aspire to input fresh air into our traditional country.

However, to pursuit differences among ideas, individuals and groups are actually not incompatible with to see meaningful similarities. In fact, the precondition of which people appreciate and affirm differences is admitting similarities. Several decades ago, one may look a foreigner as a strange life from other planet, which seriously impedes the communication with nations. Nowadays, globalization has become the key word of the time. Working with foreigners is so common for the awareness of the similarities between different species- they are all people. Sound ridiculous? But it takes efforts for much people to understand the simple view. Only one understands the similarities among differences, he or she could wholeheartedly accept differences as the impetus of innovation and creativity.

Finally, so-called similarities are often deduced from many differences, which could catalog knowledge in a more systematical way and easy to grasp. Theories serve as good example. All theories are concluded from various data and cases with refection of similarities among them. Without the direction of theories, currently people may be drowned in differences in view of the even-increasing complexity in knowledge and society.

In sum, the progress of human society cannot overlook either  the passion for differences nor the awareness of similarities. The former is often the main drive to boom innovation, while the latter is the precondition of the latter’s existence. Moreover, theories and laws are indeed the conclusions of similarities of various different phenomena and cases, which boost our progress in a high and macro angle.
