14 "It is necessary for everyone to read poetry, novels, mythology and other types of imaginative literature."

Since imaginative literature, based on imagination, can neither explain natural phenomena, nor depict the reality precisely, some people argue that it is unnecessary for us to read such kind of literature like poetry, novels, and mythology. In my view, however, imaginative literature is a response to the human need for aesthetic and emotional satisfaction and thus necessary for us.

Although imaginative literature cannot literally and faithfully record our world, it still provides us a meaningful picture of human experience of different ages and thus broadens our ken, providing useful guidance for our life. In general, the literary works derive from the human life and reality, but are re-creation of authors based on the real world. For the very reason, such works always reveal some characters of people in certain classes and of the age in which those people live. By a Tale of Two Cities, one of works of Charles Dickens, we can learn what happened in two cities, Paris and London during the French Revolution.  Dream of the red chamber, one of four famous classics of China, helps us understand human experience of Qing Dynasty. Combining personal experience with their creative thought, authors afford us a meaningful and thoughtful description of human experience in different times from today, from which, more or less, we can find something useful for life guidance.

Another reason why imaginative literature is necessary is that it can enable us to enjoy beauty. Through communication emotionally with literary works, we begin to feel, enjoy and create beauty. Poetry, for instance, is often filled with florid fantasy and melodious tone. Therefore, it is not only an imaginative painting, but also a dulcet music.  A Grain of Sand, by William Blake, for example,
To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.
From this poem, we see a beautiful world and also learn the philosophy of life.

Through imagined worlds, alternate societies and made-up scenarios, imaginative literature, especially science fiction, mythology and legends, also gives us freedom of thought. Harry potter depicts a totally different world where people possess powerful magic and a series of events happened in hogwarts, a school where children learn to be wizards or witches. This is a fabulous world! Inspired by such kind of literary works Children come to know how to freely think and create. Moreover, the process of reading literary works itself is a spiritual activity needed creation. The understanding of any works requires and encourages creativity. As Shakespeare once said, " If there are a hundred audiences, then there will be a hundred Hamlet". In one word, imaginative literature stirs up our own creative thought.

More often than not,时常imaginative literature offers us relaxation and entertainment. Unlike realism literature, which often focuses on serious themes, novels, mythology and fairy tales bring us a delightful or fantastic world. In that world, we forget our trouble and distress of real world. Also, many suppressed thoughts and feelings are vented through imaginative literature. It can reveal the widest dream and the deepest terror in our minds and thus effectively channelize 疏导 our inner feelings. In other words, it serves as a means for emotion relief.

To sum up, imaginative literature, which reflects social reality and psychology of the public, can express what we are thinking but not speak out. Also, it provides us beauty and acts as a tool to pacify our emotion and to inspire our imagination and creativity. Therefore, it is very necessary for us to read imaginative literature.

14 "It is necessary for everyone to read poetry, novels, mythology and other types of imaginative literature."

Since imaginative literature, based on imagination,(后面是based on reality,矛盾了吧?) can neither explain natural phenomena, nor depict the reality precisely, some people argue that it is unnecessary for us to read such kind of literature like poetry, novels, and mythology. In my view, however, imaginative literature is a response to the human need for aesthetic and emotional satisfaction and thus necessary for us.(观点提得很美!)

By a Tale of Two Cities, one of works of Charles Dickens, we can learn what happened in two cities, Paris and London during the French Revolution.(重要的不是what happened in two cities,而是刻画了那个特殊的历史时期的一些社会现象,当时的一些value) Dream of the red chamber, one of four famous classics of China, helps us understand human experience of Qing Dynasty. Combining personal experience with their creative thought, authors afford us a meaningful and thoughtful description of human experience in different times from today, from which, more or less, we can find something useful for life guidance.

Another reason why imaginative literature is necessary is that it can enable us to enjoy beauty. Through communication emotionally with literary works, we begin to feel, enjoy and create(去掉,你下面有专门一段讲creativity) beauty.

Through imagined worlds, alternate societies and made-up scenarios, imaginative literature, especially science fiction, mythology and legends, also gives us freedom of thought(and stimulate our creativity).
(Moreover

More often than not,时常imaginative literature offers us relaxation and entertainment. Unlike realism literature, which often focuses on serious themes, novels, mythology and fairy tales bring us a delightful or fantastic world. In that world, we forget our trouble and distress of real world. Also, many suppressed thoughts and feelings are vented through imaginative literature. It can reveal the widest dream and the deepest terror in our minds and thus effectively channelize 疏导 our inner feelings. In other words, it serves as a means for emotion relief.

To sum up, imaginative literature, which reflects social reality and psychology of the public, can express what we are thinking but not speak out(大胆的说,这样会不会有歧义?改为beyond our expression) Also, it provides us beauty and acts as a tool to pacify our emotion and to inspire our imagination and creativity. Therefore, it is very necessary for us to read imaginative literature.

All is for love
