"Most societies do not take their greatest thinkers seriously, even when they claim to admire them."

Recent years have seen much squabbling over the question whether the greatest thinkers of our community contributed to the world sufficiently that they are worthy of being respected by us and of the honors they have received. While most people hold the view that, although those thinkers played an important role in the development of humanity, we should not take them seriously because those so called thinkers only render plans theoretically which may not be proved to be effective, they ignore the factors that, without those precursors who advocated revolutions bravely, it will be less probable for our society proceed so fast. Thus, most societies have no excuse to disregard their greatest thinkers.

Admittedly, some thinkers did make errors that may arouse people’s discontent or cast doubt on them. However, nobody in this world is perfect enough to be called saint including those thinkers. Everyone will make foibles once in a while no matter how meticulous they are tending to be. Aristotle who is prominent philosopher of ancient Greek once contended that the whole world is made up with five elements, which is proved to be wrong. Thus, many people insist that he is not as good as we might have thought. But they failed to take into account that Aristotle has exerted a strong influence on the advancement of human society. Owing to his theory, which totally alter our way of thinking and by which the new school of thought was set up, the human society changed the dramatically. Therefore, his achievements not only counteracted but also outstripped his flaws by far.

It is because the advanced and promising theories of the greatest thinkers that the whole world is being droved continuously. Plato's work, The Public, on which his laid out idea of a perfect state, remain the staple of the education of school around the world. Also, Adam Smith's works that grabbed the essence of the society is still guiding us and remaining the foundation of policies make up by many governments. Socrates who laid the foundation of modern philosophy also created a give-and-take method, which is still highly regarded and being manipulated to teach the students nowadays.

Without the whole society's attention to those greatest thinkers and their discernible analysis and useful and powerful constructions to our community, we will never be able to make progress in the field of science, education, and politics, which is based on the guidance of advanced ideas to find a routine to develop and enhance themselves, without those greatest leaders and innovators, we will never find a authority to rely on and end up with a lot of futile constructs that will eventually corrupt us. A case in point is that, although a student can possess an astounding talent, without teachers’ sophisticated instruction he will surely fail to set up a well-defined goal or, even if he established it, he would find it difficult to get an effective way to achieve it.

In sum, the whole society of mankind cannot be present without those greatest thinkers who are performing the function of laying the basis and shed light on the way we are probing. Every society that ignores pillars of its own will end up with recession for sure; every society needs those great thinkers to maintain its existence.

我觉得跑题了。人家说的是“do not”而不是“should not”，差老远了。如果是should那这篇文章写得不错，但是题目是do，表述了现象，不一样的。by imong
