求问SMU econ phd的教学情况

关于这个学校的econ phd信息甚少 最近几年才成立的项目 也没有placement数据可以参考

不过看他们的网站做的 phd candidates 相当不错 而且教授基本赶上了北美二流学校
从tilburg ranking 筛选 2009-2011间的publication 超过个HKUST 可见学术实力之强大


但是总觉得reputation is not well-established    有人了解这个学校的管理和教学吗

Yes you are right, the reputation is really a concern for future career placement, meanwhile, there is no previous placement as reference.
BTW, I checked your previous post and I would not choose SMU if I have such good background as you. You are from top university with excellent GPA&GRE, why not try universities such as NTU&NUS and above (EU&US)

thanks for your comment, i am just curious about their suprising output

their candidate got a publication in Journal of Econometrics, even phd in top u.s. schools cannot have such a publication when stepping out of campus.

I think their faculty really cared about this program and their innitial reputation for recent years.   Don't  you think this is crucial in Graduate Studies? or especially for someone pursuing a long-term academic life?

I think most universities in HK donot care about program propagation or even not have a contact office for their phd candidates, this is the problem. Maybe SMU are trying to accomodate US program mode.

I agree with you, the publications are shining point, however, if considering future career path, a PhD degree from world top university is quite critical as there are some jobs only open for top university graduates, same thing like China, some jobs are only open for 211&985 students, but we can not say non-211&985 graduates are not so good as 211&985 students.

good point, I think this a good place for students of potential without a decent background.
