RA opens for PhD candidates in biomass conversion and biofuels

The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking M.S. and/or PhD students. The programs will be involved in biomass thermal chemical conversion and catalytic reforming. The students will participate to develop novel processes of biomass conversion to bio-oil, bio-char, and synthesis gas (syngas), and then further upgrade into “green” gasoline, diesel, and jet fuels. The researches include investigations of biomass gasification, pyrolysis, catalyst development and applications, and the effects of feedstock types and processing parameters on the yield and quality of biofuels produced.
The applicants must already have at least Bachelor degree(s) in chemical engineering, agricultural engineering, biological energy, or related areas. Previous experience in thermochemical application, petroleum refinery, biomass pyrolysis, gasification, catalyst development and application are desirable. The selected candidates will collaborate with the research team members who have expertise in the fields of biomass pretreatment, pyrolysis, gasification, syngas and/or bio-oil upgrading to biofuels and/or chemicals at SDSU. The research programs offer interdisciplinary research opportunities on biomass thermochemical processing for biofuels and/or chemicals. The successful candidates will be offered research assistantships with tuition and benefits based on qualification and experience. These positions are opened for Fall 2013 or until they are filled.
