我之前发过一个帖子说要集中训练阅读速度，但是一直没有实行。前两天又因为一些事情搞得我有点不想管理这个小组，就自己单干复习。。。但是今天想了想，既然我成立了这个小组，还是负责到底吧。现在，我们要开始阅读集中训练了。阅读提速方法参加帖子：

训练内容如下：

1.精读：每天一篇文章——可以是GRE长阅读，LSAT阅读，或者包括但不限于以下杂志
                           The Economist， Wall Street Journal
                           Discover，aldaily
                           the browser
           精读要分析文章，总结论点和中心思想。这两天我发现版友微凉妹子的新楼，大家可以参考她的帖子：

2. 泛读：有如下几种选择
          a.每周一本200页左右的英文书(小说或者科普的都行，我之前那篇帖子里附带了两本不错的小说，大家可以从那两本开始)，有能力的同学可以读大部头的
          b.或者 4---6 篇你自己想要申请专业的学术论文（对于我来说就是经济学的啦，差不多总共 150 多页）
            ---学术论文要写出作者的 Research Question，Research Motivation 和 Methodology 及 Conclusion （要 paraphrase it，用自己的话改写）。
         
泛读坚持四周，精度一直坚持到考试。

参加规则如下：
1.在论坛上新开一贴，将帖子的链接回复到我这个楼里，每天报告自己所读的文章
2.报告的内容包括
   a. 泛读的读物名字和进度，对于小说，报告所读章节和小说故事情节的发展，对于科普读物，报告文章大意。
   b. 精读的文章链接以及文章大意（如果是纸质版，提供文章题目和作者），分析每段主旨和作用，分析文章结构。
3.小组组员自愿参加，强烈希望最早的组员——蜥蜴也飞，奋斗的小鸟以及Jessie参加
   另外，版内希望提升自己阅读速度的筒子（但我推荐你在参加前把自己的单词量集中扩大一下，有了一定的单词基础才是快速阅读的保障）也可以来参加。。。

七月的内容

本周泛读内容，数学历史，前10章。今天进度，第一、二章。此两章主要介绍了毕达哥拉斯学派和希腊几何学的发展以及对于数学学科的贡献。精读文章：The Economist
Secrets, lies and America's spies.

This article talked about American Surveillance.

Their point is that although the America's spies are doing a just thing, the level of scrutiny by public and the right of redress are inadequate to limit officials powers. Hence, Americans need a clearer idea of what their spies are doing in their name.

The article began with a case--- a young security contractor called Edward Snowden, who leaked NSA's documents on spying millions of American's phone records and hundreds of millions foreigner's cyber activities.

The main body of the essay was divided into five paragraphs, with the first one admitting that spies' activities are indeed fulfilling their duty of ensuring their own citizen's safety. Then the four following paragraphs expressed three concerns or worries about the surveillance-- nobody can judge if the cost and intrusion are proportionate to the threat: The first concern is about the size, scope and cost of the security bureaucracy; second problem is the influence on the relationships of America with other countries; the third worry is that governments acting outside public scrutiny are not to be trusted; and finally, governments may be opportunistic and exploit the rules to gain important new powers that they then kept secret.

In conclusion, although spooks (愿意为幽灵，鬼怪，这里引申为间谍) need some secrecy, there is no need to make them totally outside the public sight, because public scrutiny is a condition for popular backing. Americans deserve a better knowledge of what their spies are doing on their behalf.
