1.    You're going to have lunch with a friend.  She suggested that you eat in the city, but you want to have eat at the Zoo cafeteria .  Persuade your friend to have lunch at the Zoo.  (30 seconds)

Possible Answer:    I know that you really want to go into the city for lunch, but I heard that the food here at the Zoo cafeteria is really delicious.  Since we are here now, why don't we try out the cafeteria.  I'll pay for lunch since it's my idea.  Also, after eating lunch there will be a special dolphin show over at the aquarium.  Let's eat lunch and then go see the dolphin show.

  2.    Directions  (30 seconds)

3.  Which exhibit at the Zoo would you recommend I visit?  (45 seconds)

Possible Answer:    I recommend you go to the monkey house exhibit.  I've heard from friends of mine that it is really a fun exhibit.  They have monkeys there from all over the world.  There are small monkeys, medium sized monkeys, and some humongous monkeys.  There are monkeys of all sizes, shapes and colors.  Also, I heard that they have a special room that has a fifteen minute movie about the monkeys in the exhibit.  It is suppose to be a very interesting film.  I think you would really enjoy visiting that exhibit.

4.  Compare children learning about animals by reading books with learning about animals by visiting a Zoo.  (60 seconds)

Possible Answer:    Children can learn more about animal's characteristics and habits through books than they can through visiting a Zoo.  Books provide a lot of facts about animals, such as, their habitat, mating habits and life cycles.  Books provide specific information about animals that can't be learned at a Zoo.  However, Zoos provide visual experiences that books cannot provide.  For example, at a Zoo children can enjoy watching penguins, seals and dolphins swimming in the water.  They can watch giraffes stretch their long necks as they eat from tall trees.  They will hear the sounds and see the interesting actions of each animal.  These kinds of visual and auditory experiences cannot be had through reading a book.

  5.  Story Telling

Possible Answer:     One day a man was shopping at a mall.  He entered a men's clothing store and tried on a new suit.  He decided to buy the suit and left the store leaving his other shopping bags behind at the store.  One of the clerks recognized that the bags belonged to the man and quickly grabbed them and ran out of the store to give them to him.  However, it was too late he had already left the mall and couldn't be found.  She returned to the store and put the man's bags behind the counter.

6.  How could this problem have been prevented?  (45 seconds)

Possible Answer:    I think that this could have been prevented if the man had taken his bags with him into the dressing room, instead of leaving them near the clerks counter.  If he had taken them with him into the dressing room he would have noticed them when he changed back into his own clothes.  It is easy forget something that isn't near us or in our site, so I think he could have prevented this if he had kept his bags near him at all times.

  7.  Call the clerk of this store and persuade her to keep the store open later than usual so that you can go there and pick up your belongings.  (45 seconds)

Possible Answer:    Hello, earlier today I left my bags at your store after I bought a suite.  I'm on my way to your store now from downtown.  However, the traffic is terrible and I'm afraid I won't be able to get to your store before its closing time.  Would you please keep your store open for an extra thirty minutes.  I think will arrive there at about 6:00 p.m.  I know that you close at 5:30 p.m.  I'm here on business and will be returning to my home in Los Angeles tomorrow.  I'd really appreciate it if you would do me this favor.

8.  Imagine one of your good friends inherited a large amount of money.  What would you recommend your friend to do with the money?  (60 seconds)

Possible Answer:    I recommend that you visit a financial consultant.  There are several good people in town who help people who have a lot of money.  Most of them charge a very reasonable price for their services.  They will help you to plan a safe way to invest and use the money wisely so that you won't spend it too quickly or let it be wasted by sitting in a bank account earning low interest.  They will help you to make money with your money.  I'm sure you won't regret visiting one of these consultants.  In fact, I'm sure you will thank me later after you visit one of them.

9.  What are some important qualifications necessary for being a parent?  (60 seconds)

Possible Answer:     One of the qualifications of being a parent is patience.  Parents have to be very patient and understanding.  Children are often noisy and messy.  If parents get impatient too quickly then they may become angry and yell at their children unnecessarily.  Children need love and nurturing, so parents often half to forget about themselves and place the needs of their children above their own needs.  Making these kinds of sacrifices require a lot of maturity.  Not all parents are good parents, but all parents can become better parents by trying to learn how to understand their children and how to raise them well.  It takes a lot of patience and time to become a good parent.

  10.  Some people prefer living near large bodies of water, such as the ocean, and others prefer living near large mountains.  Which do you prefer.  (60 seconds)

Possible Answer:      I prefer living near large mountains.  I grew up in the Rocky Mountain area of Western United States.  Every winter I went skiing with my father and friends.  Whenever I go into the mountains I feel very free.  The scenery is so beautiful and the air so fresh.  It is so different from the city environment.  Also, I enjoy camping in the mountains.  While camping I enjoy mountain climbing and fishing.  These activities are refreshing and exciting.  For me, there are so many interesting things to do in the mountains, and that's why I really love the mountains and prefer them to large bodies of water.

11.  The graph below presents information about river water levels for two different years.  Describe the information in the graph.  (60 seconds)

Possible Answer:     This graph shows that water levels this year are much higher than they were last year.  In January of this year the river level was about ten feet, whereas last year it was about four and a half feet.  From January to July, the river levels continued to increase consistently until it reached a peak at just a little over sixteen feet.  In the previous year the river level fluctuated around six feet but didn't really change very much.  At the end of this year the river level dropped to about twelve feet.
