TWE NO.94 请众高手挑挑毛病!
94. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Dancing plays an important role in a culture. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
From its beginning, dancing has been playing an important role in people’s life, and it is also one of the most representative mark to many cultures.
Throughout the history, dancing serves as different functions in different period. People set dancing as a form performed usually in ritual when in primitive society, which functions to celebrate, pray, and bless. As the development of society, gradually ritual converted into what is called now opera, from then on, dancing has become on way of entertainment. With more and more people streamed into the opera theatre, the original stage for dancing eventually developed into today the Broadway. Today, not only does dancing itself becomes a kind of match, but it generates some new items after combining with some sports games, such as figure skating and rhythmic gymnastics.
Plus, almost nations all over the world have their own characteristic dancing that embodies local culture to distinguish from each other. Latin dancing, deriving from Cuba, was in its origin to celebrate victory or bumper harvest, and gradually it evolved a way to express love between the young. In the 1920’s, the immigrants from Ireland and the slaves from Africa brought America each folk dance that syncretized latter to a new dancing form, tap dancing. A folk expert can simply tell the Latin dancing and tap dancing apart, because a deep and obvious brand of each culture is on it.
Although in modern times, dancing has withdrawn from mainstream entertainment little by little, its function as a means of social activity becomes more and more significant. Like ball or shindig, businessmen and politicians need such an environment to make friends, keep in touch, and communicate with each other. Probably, no other forms could be more suitable than ball to meet this kind of demand that they could meet so many various people just in one time!
In sum, dancing is to a culture as passport is to a person. Under some circumstances, dancing plays a role of a passport available to all over the world! |
