04 the Mayan civilization
This article focuses on JL’s book for exploring the reason of the Mayan civilization’s collapse.  Evidence from known archaeological record serves as the underpinning of his book’s argument, and JL’s core argument is that the civilization would collapse if the society’s monuments ceased to be built. In light of this theory, JL examined Mayan’s civilization in order of time. Then several reasons for why it collapses are provided by JL. One is the overloaded farmland and the soaring ruling class’s increasing demand for food, but less available people work on farming. And the collapse of each state is interlocked. At last, the author points out JL’s argument is problematic for we do not know whether its assumption is not reliable, namely, the accurate extent of the evidence from archaeology.
Gist: JL’s theory for the collapse of Mayan civilization is questionable for its assumption need to be reconsideration.
P1 supplies the background introduces the research map in JL’s book. TS the 2nd sentence.
P2 further discusses the reasons for Mayan civilization’s collapse  in JL’s book.
P3 A turn point. Indicates JL’s book is questionable for its assumption flaw.

Opponents poses a question to this new theory about the temperature restriction, and the proponents respond from two aspects, one is taking diamond as the example to support their argument and another is using experiment data to show their validity. Finally, this new theory is affirmed by a drill company’s successful drilling.

This article firstly raises a question of how to differ true from false, and then introduces the underpinning philosophy for the solution of this question, namely, objectivity. Regard to the law, the judgment of a case is based on objectivity, however, it is also problematic because it is hard to get unbiased as the psychologist points out that everyone in this society has his own antedated view of the same things. Another problem is that the Judge usually prone to believe the trained lawyer’s story is true for it sounds “objective” , and the story teller’s words are false just because he lacks of the ability to express his story without personal emotion.  And there are legal scholars are trying to sought a way to help these group of unpowered people.

The discussion of mathematics as a valid language for science paves the way to the core argument, how could language be accurately to express our thought.  Two theories trying to answer this question are provided here. One is that language has its essential characteristic to make its description reliable, and another is that language is actually related with the concrete social context and conventions. The author points out the 2nd is preferable and discusses it detailed and makes comparison with mathematics language. Finally, pose a question for the 1st theory and don't give answer for it.
P1 background introduction.  TS, the last one.  P2 the core argument introduction here, and to deal with the problem, the language’s role is discussed.  TS this 1st P3 elaborate on how the theory for language’s role help ours understanding of mathematics language to science.  P4 poses problem of the thoery1.

This article firstly presents the evidence that lobster’s two claws have different functions, describing it as the phenomenon of asymmetry. Then it tries to interpret such asymmetry by employing VE’s theory that the forming of the asymmetry is caused by different utility rate of each claw. An experiment is illustrated here that if one claw is lost, another would always be the cutter. Finally, this hypothesis is tested in lab environment and affirmed by the result.
Gist, lobster claws’ asymmetry function is gradually formed in their juvenile period due to the different usage rate. The one use much more frequently would become the cutter, and vice versa. Once we remove any one of the claw during the juvenile period, such asymmetry would disappear. But it is not the case for adult lobster.
P1 evidence and background.  P2 elaborate on the theory of this evidence and render a new question here, this question is core.  P3 interpretation for the new question.  P4 test the interpretation offered in P3.
Attitude, neutral. support the theory in article.

This short passage mainly discusses how the environment put influences on living organisms and conversely, the organism may put effects to their habitat.  But the situation is disparage among fresh water, sea and terrestrial ecosystem. One example is provided at the end to demonstrate that due to the exhausted  resource of silica.

C86-3
This article firstly discusses two phenomenon, namely, the smaller animal has a high level of metabolism and need a higher frequency of food replenishment, and the situation is converse for large animal, therefore, the author renders the core question for this passage, why the large animal could not be attacked by the smaller one.  Moving forward, the author explains beside the OM, the larger animal keep alive by AG.  The key factor for AG is glycolysis, which can break down into ATP, which is essential for producing energy.  And the energy one animal can produce is proportional with its muscle size (具体的原理和例子第一遍都没看清楚). But the author further points out that the AG has its own shortage which may lead to the large animal become vulnerable in a certain time (看的太快,第一遍原理也没明白,苦逼)
P1 background and render question P2 an explanation for this question P3 further discussion for the AG.
两个原理没仔细看清楚,所以5,6细节题没做,结构看明白了其他题没错
Analysis for the theory
1. AG:
Muscle glycogen--> lactic acid and ATP--> energy
(+correlation)Energy amount: glycogen amount =0.5% of muscles weight,  --> energy is proportional with animal size
2. Shortage of AG:
glycogen energy only lasts for 2’ and after which only the normal OM source of energy remains.
Burst activity-->high lactic acid level vulnerable to attack until the lactic level reconvert
3. Process of lactic level reconvert:
OM  by liver into glucose sent back to muscles for glycogen re-synthesis
lactic level reconvert  cost more time for larger animal than smaller one disadvantaged for larger animal

This short article primarily firstly pose a question to what extent the combining research of biology and sociology would be possible. And then give evidence of his own research for the T and M. More details are illusrated for the similarity  between the T and M society than the hugh structure difference.

C9710
This article firstly renders two questions : what is the elicit of monkey’s aggressive behavior, and how does the social mechanism control such aggressive. A fasle interpretation is presented first that researchers state that it is the compete for any resource that triggers monkey’s aggressive behavior. However, further study shows that under the condition of food deprevation, the monkeys are not willing to be aggressive and oppositely, they would like to keep queit and save their energy. S’s experiment tested this.  Then the author explains what is the social mechanism of the monkeys by illustrating how the intruders behave aggression  in a unified group, and ther are two possible ending, one is the unified group conquers the intruders, and the other is the defeated part shows to be not aggressive. And there is no individual combat.
Gist, this passage attempts to answer two questions, one is the causal mechanism of monkey, and the another is what is the social mechanism of monkey.
P1 background and render two questions. P2 A fasle interpretation and the right interpretation for the first quesiton. P3 further discussion on the 2nd question.
Attitude, neutral.
