7.28     Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is better to take a secure job with a low pay than to take a job with a high pay but is easy to lose.

Nowadays, during job-hunting period, making a decision for offers coming from different companies, just like doing the investment of finance, always has both risks and gains with inverse proportion. Some people may maintain those jobs which accompany with higher margin of safety and lower salary, while others just hold the opposite opinions. I personally support the later one to some extent.

To begin with, trying a job with a high pay and risk could help one improve one’s ability rapidly. Since a high-paid but easy-losing job means that practitioners need to spend more time in learning and working, like reading more related books and keep consulting with seniors, then these later participants could make great progress, thus ensuring them to deal with any dilemma with great facility in their following career. On the contrary, suppose one chased another life style with picking a low-paid job with higher security, perhaps he or she would feel much easier and more comfortable at beginning. However, when the trade that he or she took in turned down, such as facing finance crisis, he or she would be confused and didn't know the orient that he or she would change to. So, obviously, high-paid jobs with higher risks would retain one's competence.

What's more, taking a high-paid job with more risks could also bring some benefits. With the development of economic and large process of modernization, many people living in the city don't want to tighten their belts and worry about their various costs, such as rent, food and bills. Then, by getting a decent job with high pay, their salaries are more attractive and absorbing. As a result, besides all the prerequisite pays, there is some extra money for them to enjoy their spare time with hanging out with friends or traveling. For example, after I graduate from college, I enter into one American company located in Shanghai and get about 250,000 Yuan for salary per year. Besides about 2,000 Yuan for kinds of bills per month, there is 10,000 Yuan left and I can spend all the remaining money in doing whatever I would like to do. But, one of classmates from high school, due to the restriction of his career, he can remain little money per month, even though I always leave my office much later than he.

Undeniably, compared with low-paid but security jobs, taking a job with high income but easy to lose might bring more pressure. For instance, while confronting finance crisis, those people who joined in invest banks or securities companies should undertake larger stress. However, if viewed from a different perspective, people working in finance trade cannot neglect these opportunities after the recovery of the crisis. What's more, as long as these participants could handle the pressure coming from their daily work, there is no need to worry about it anymore.

In a nutshell, although a high-paid and easy-losing job maybe brings larger pressure, both the decent income and the chances that help people to improve their abilities are attractive and persuasive.

Both the lecture and the reading center on whether or not the trend that people are reading less literature has unfortunate effects for public, culture and the future of literature with a number of conflicting views respectively.

To being with, the professor emphasizes that people should not assume that other disciplines are useless. According to her, compared with novels and poems, those aspects, such as science, history, political analysis and so on, are also creative and can help people to stimulate their intelligence. This point refutes the argument from the reading that, due to reading less literature, the public will miss out on important benefits.

Additionally, the speaker also proposes that moving sight to other forms of entertainment does not mean the culture inclination. To be specific, she maintains that both the formation and expression of culture have been changing. For example, based on her perspectives, listening music and watching movies should not be considered as wasting time. All of these disprove the belief from the reading material that diverting time spent in reading literature to trivial forms of amusement has lowered the level of general culture.

What's more, contrary to the proposal from the reading that fewer serious writers are supported because of devoid of audience and the poor standards of current readers, the instructor advocates that all these should be ascribed to readers but others' faults. In other words, readers should not be blamed, because literature written by current so-called talented writers is so difficult to understand that people living in the past could not feel easier. Therefore, the lecture invalidates the point from the reading.

To sum up, the lecture casts doubts on the reading material.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? If a student is having difficulty studying a course, it is better for the student to turn to a friend who is good at this course than to turn to his/her teacher

Nowadays, when being trapped by a course, an increasing number of students choose to fall back on their friends who are adept at it, which is a phenomenon worth discussing. Personally speaking, this method is highly recommended.

To being with, turning to a friend could bring more convenience. Compared with the unpredictability of teachers' schedule, since students whether or not they are skilled at some courses always have more time to stay together, like eating, studying, and even living, then getting assist of a friend who is come in handy is available. As a result, they are able to consult their friends, whenever they are and wherever they are, without any appointment. I will give an example of mine when I was a college student. Due to the assignment of the college, we undergraduates were located in the new campus and all our teachers worked and lived in the old site. Except the teaching time, we had no other extra time to meet our teachers and discuss with them. However, because of the curriculum schedule, maybe there were only a couple of minutes left after class. Therefore, when facing some dilemmas during the review of our lessons, we had to obtain assistance from our
classmates.

Furthermore, discussing with a friend could improve one's ability of communication. As young adults are always willing to open their mouth and express their views when confronting their contemporary, then they can cultivate their skills of group discussion, regardless of the instructing sites or the receiving ones. In this way, these young adults could promote the ability on how to illustrate their own opinions, how to comprehend others' purpose and how to figure out the blemish. And all these critical thinking will benefit them a lot when they graduate from college and step into society. Suppose these young adults didn't turn to their classmates or friends when facing difficulties, even though they might get help from the teacher, they would have the chances to improve the communication skills, because they could not be totally open-minded before the teacher.

Admittedly, it is true that only a few issues might need to ask the advice of the teacher. For instance, when some of the young students would like to know the history of a course or the developing orient in the future, owing to the limitation of the knowledge scope of their classmates, sometimes they have to chat with the teacher. However, if viewed from a different perspective, with the rapid expansion of the information and knowledge, large amounts of young students have focused on those academic documentaries. What is more, as long as young adults who are interested in the development of their major leave more spare time with their friends, they also can get what they want.

In a nutshell, maybe looking for a teacher is the only way when students get some problems about some learning courses, because turning to friends could also help the students to fix these problems. Besides, the students could hold their own schedule easier and improve their communication skill.

Compared with the unpredictability of teachers' schedule, since students whether or not they are skilled at some courses always have more time to stay together, like eating, studying, and even living, then getting assist of a friend who is come in handy is available.(这里用个一个大从句,但读起来感觉不是很舒服。我试着稍微调整了一下。 Compared with the unpredictability of teachers’ schedule, they have more time to stay together with their friends during eating, studying or living, whether they are skilled at some courses.) As a result, they are able to consult their friends, whenever they are and wherever they are, without any appointment. I will give an example of mine when I was a college student. Due to the assignment of the college, we undergraduates were located in the new campus and (while) all our teachers worked and lived in the old site. Except the teaching time, we had no other extra(other 和extra会不会有些重叠) time to meet our teachers and discuss with them. However (这里感觉没有什么强烈转折,Also), because of the curriculum schedule, maybe there were only a couple of minutes left after class. Therefore, when facing some dilemmas during the review of our lessons, we had to obtain assistance from our classmates.

Furthermore, discussing with a friend could improve one's ability of communication. As young adults are always willing to open their mouth and express their views when confronting their contemporary, then they can cultivate their skills of group discussion, regardless of the instructing sites or the receiving ones. In this way(感觉additionally可能好一些,因为the way is to open their mouth and express their views在前面已经被解释过好处了cultivate their skills, 后面是接着解释 ), these young adults could promote the ability on how to illustrate their own opinions, how to comprehend others' purpose and how to figure out the blemish. And all these critical thinking will benefit them a lot when they graduate from college and step into society. Suppose these young adults didn't turn to their classmates or friends when facing difficulties, even though they might get help from the teacher, they would have the chances to improve the communication skills, because they could not be totally open-minded before the teacher.(这里又开始套各种从句,这样句子的中心表达不明确。If these young adults didn’t turn to their classmates but the teacher once facing difficulties, that would be not favorable. As they could not be totally open-minded before the teacher, they would have little chances to improve the communication skills.)

Admittedly, it is true that only a few issues might need to ask(这里该用被动吧) the advice of the teacher. For instance, when some of the young students would like to know the history of a course or the developing orient in the future, owing to the limitation of the knowledge scope of their classmates, sometimes they have to chat with the teacher. (看这句话是不是有点头重脚轻 when some of the young students want to know the history of a course or the developing orient in the future, sometimes they have to chat with the teacher not the classmates, owing to the limitation of the knowledge scope of their classmates.) However, if viewed from a different perspective, with the rapid expansion of the information and knowledge, large amounts of young students have focused on those academic documentaries. (好像没有说结果 in order to solve their confusion) What is more, as long as young adults who are interested in the development of their major leave more spare time with their friends, they also can get what they want.

In a nutshell, maybe looking for a teacher is the only way when students get some problems about some learning courses, because turning to friends could also help the students to fix these problems. Besides, the students could hold their own schedule easier and improve their communication skill.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People who move out of their native village or town are happier and more successful than those who stay in native village or town for all their life.

Nowadays, as the urbanization in China goes, an increasing number of people is coming out their hometown and moving into large cities, which is an interesting phenomenon to discuss. Personally speaking, I maintain that moving out of their native town and living in large cities will give people more convenience.

First of all, living in big cities could expand people's knowledge scope. Since government has the inclinations that those large cities would be considered as the first priority when allocating resources, such as building museums and organizing expos. Then, people who choose to live in the big city could improve their knowledge level through all those activities, like visiting some exhibitions. As a result, with the development of the economic all over the world, residents of those big cities could get the upper hand because their experiences have been enriched and their knowledge horizon has been broadened. On the contrary, suppose those people chose to stay in their hometown, even though they perhaps could recognize all the changes outside through TV or Internet, they would have no chances to be well-educated and develop a variety of skills. Indeed, choosing large cities will give people opportunities to be versatile.

In addition, choosing large cities will provide more convenience. Because, compared with living the native village or the small town, there are multiple transport tools, such as public buses and metros. Meanwhile, all the schedules of those transports are very flexible. Then, people can choose several ways to arrive their destination and will not worry about that no buses or metros could be taken when they go back home later. Therefore, people will enjoy their lives in their spare time. I will take my experience as an example. When I was in high school, due to the arrangement of the school, I had to stay at school for the self-study till 9 o'clock in the evening, while the bus between my home and the school would be due at 7 o'clock in the evening, so my father had to pick me up every evening. However, now I am living in Shanghai, and all the subways will not stop until later 11 o'clock in the midnight, even some public buses will work all the night. So, when hanging out with friends, I never worry about the time.

Admittedly, staying in the large cities might have some minor issues. For example, because of the higher expenses for the daily life, people need to work hard and endure much pressure. Also, compared with the fresh air in the village, the dwelling environment of the cities is less competitive. However, if viewed from a different perspective, people could strike a reasonable balance between their work and daily life, and the authorities also think about the sustainable development more profoundly. All these problems will be solved and there is no need to worry about them anymore.

To sum up, because of the expansion of personal knowledge level and the convenience brought by living the large cities, I suggest that people should move out of their small hometown and choose to dwell in big cities.
