V: Why do you want to come to US?

M: For the best education. I have 2 reasons. The 1st one is US provides the best education for my major, fundamental biology. The 2nd one is

V: What is your plan for your major?

M: I wish to implement your leading edge in the fundamental biology into the development of China's Traditional Chinese Medicine. I've made consistent efforts towards this dream, to plant the best medicinal herbs worldwide.

V: How do you pay for your education?

V: I have an almost tuition scholarship from ****** and the rest of my expense will be paid by my parents. I have my bank statement.

V: Do you have any supporting documents?

M: I have many, which one do you want to have a look?

V: Just anything

M: Here they are. // I insert a file into the slot

V: // start to look at the documents page by page and I made a little description to important documents. They are the offer letter, cert of deposit, offer letter while I was studying in *****, admission letter, my 'O' Level result as well as SAT I & II, TOEFL, supporting documents on China's big GAP plan (Good Agricultural Practice of Medicinal Plants & Animals), land properties, 4 of my photos taken in Harbin's pharmaceutical company.

V: Will you come back to work in a company like this one after graduation?

M: It will certainly be my honor. This is one of the most profitable and large-scale companies in China. Even a manual worker there can make up to thousands of Chinese Yuan.

V: (nodding) What are your parents do?

M: My parents are the 4th generation of Chinese Medical Doctors in China since Qing Dynasty.

V: Can you show me something about them?

M: Here are the Medical Practice Certificate of my parents & my grandparents.

V: //Looking at my grandpa's cert. I inserted my grandpa's photo taken at the front gate of my family's clinic beforehand.

M: Here is my family’s clinic. My father and my grandparents are working there.

V: Will you come back to work for them one day?

M: I will after I fulfill my ambition on planting the best herbs worldwide. They certainly wish me to join them. It’s my family’s tradition.

V: Who’s this? //looking at my mom’s cert

M: This is my mother.

V: Did she look at this now or took the photo she was young?

M: More or less as now.

V: Oh she’s very pretty.

M: Thank you! //exagerated tone as the Americans do

V: Can you please wait here for a moment?

M: Sure.

She came back 2-3 minutes later, and still busying at her table

M: You haven’t had your lunch, have you?

V: Not yet.

M: It’s not an easy work

V: Why do you go to this school?

M: I’ve known this school through their admissions director, Miss ***, 3 years ago at a college fair in **** She’s very nice and I’ve known a lot about this school through our 4 times face-to-face conversation & email contact. On top of that, Fairleigh Dickinson has an excellent biology program & is generous in terms of scholarship.

V: What kind of degree will you pursue in US?

M: With my A Level credits, I wish to pursue a master’s degree in 5 years. And then I will come back to fulfill my dream to standardize & modernize TCM. Moreover, China has a big plan on GAP right now. In the case of Heilongjiang Province alone, out of the 2500 medicinal herbs, there are only 3 herbs have undergone controlled plantation and accurate analysis. I believe there will be great prospects & opportunities in this area.

V: What kind of place will you come back to work for your research?

M: Oh there are many, universities, pharmaceutical companies, ect.

V: What kind of exact companies will you work for after graduation?

M: There are 2 very famous pharmaceutical companies in Harbin, one is Sanjing and the other is Shiyitang. Have you seen the photos just now? I visited these companies.

V: Oh they are one of them. I see.
