196."Technology creates more problems than it solves, and may threaten or
damage the quality of life."
Recently, people are always talking about the problem of whether technology creates more problems that it solves. If there is one--which I take leave to doubt--then it is created by those who have not a good appreciation of technology and do not know to take advantage of it , not by those who have a profound understanding of technology and have had completely make best use of it. As far as I am concerned, I believe that the technology solves more problems that it creates, and thus have greatly improved our life quality.
First of all, many people may sincerely believe that the technology have nothing to do with our daily life, however, we do not have to go very far to see that the technology place an important influence on our work, study, and life. With the development of science and technology, the society get drastically improved and more and more advanced equipments and apparatus come out, which serve as significant tools to facilitate many new effective methods and bring much more convenience to our daily life. One good case in point is the emergence of MRI (magnetic resonance image) in medicine, which is, nowadays, widely used as a necessary assistant examination in all kinds of disease such as fracture, cerebral hemorrhage, and cerebral atherosclerosis and brain infarction and so on. It is especially useful and sensitive to the patient who suffered from carcinoma, even if it is too small to be perceived by X ray film. With the help of this technology, a larger number of patients could then get a early diagnosis in clinical service and then acquire a early and immediate treatment, which could greatly safe their lives and largely improve the quality of life as well as alleviate their bitterness.
In addition, some people may also take for granted that we can live the equal life and solve problem with no help of technology, yet a close examination would reveal that many of problems can not be settled down apart away from technology. Even if we can not deduce this fact of without question from the general principles, we can know this from the concrete example of, for instance, the computer. As we know, computer is not only much fast than human brain in the calculating velocity, but also it make fewer mistakes and fallacies than human race, thus make a great many things available to the common people which expected of mission impossible in the past, such as reporting weather conversion, decoding genetic series, and sending satellites and so on, all this events which are thought to be undoubtedly hallucination and night vision are eventually realized today, which, to a greater extent, attribute to the development of technology.
Admittedly, the technology do bring about some troubles and problems which haunt the imaginations of people as well as political leaders and may sometimes result in great menace and damage to our society. It looks as every sword bears tow blades, the disadvantages of technology do exist which may in some sense threaten and damage our life. Positively, it is a grimly whimsical spectacle that the gunners using technology to shatter men's bodies while, close at hand, surgeons use it to restore them. Obviously, this is not original purpose of the technology. Therefore the problem set for society is not the fault of technology so much as the human's attitude of how to use technology properly and helpfully.
In summary, the technology has definitely and vastly played a utilitarian role in our lives today. Without the help of technology, our life would never get such convenient and comfortable. Moreover, it is the technology that has extended the human brain and greatly brought about solutions to difficulties and problems remained in the past owing to the confine of limited technological level.
