Right, it's optional, but their interview is strongly recommended according to their website, and the admission officer who interviewed me mentioned this as well.
The possible function of their interview is for them to get to know us in detail.
Although the information on our applications represents our personality, academic accomplishments, and work experiences, I bet they probably want to listen the human answers from us. I have low speaking score, too. But I think I appealed myself very well through the interview like mentioning my background and career objective. especially, I told her that I started reading Bar exam materials, and she got surprised about that. haha
That's why I interviewed with them.

很早以前，我看到他们学校可以申请interview，就写邮件问了一下，是不是interview对申请有加分，对方答复是。后来我就申请了。结果2个星期前学校来邮件，说一直pend我的file，又觉得我托福还可以（其实lz以为一般），问我可不可以不interview，这样他们就可以赶快开始审阅了，囧o(╯□╰)o。所以interview神马的不用太担心啦。

我觉得是不是这样，Interview是个展现的机会，老外对自信展现的人有所青睐。当然像楼上这位说的条件够了沟通过直接答复不用面的，当然是最保险的。
