43. The increasingly rapid pace of life today causes more problems than it solves.

With the development of technologies, modern society has a more rapid life pace than before. On one hand, a faster life pace makes people’s daily life more convenient. On the other hand, it also causes a lot of problems. For myself, I truly appreciate the convenience a fast pace life brings however, the problems are also cannot be ignored. After careful consideration of cons and pros of the statement, I agree with the speaker that a increasingly rapid life pace today brings more problems than benefits.

To begin with, I have to concede that the development of technologies makes our life pace faster and faster. New technologies give tons of benefits. They are changing our life everyday. For example, the way people communicate in the past was writing letters of telegraph. For letters it might take days to month to reach the receivers, telegraph takes hours. Nowadays, people have cell phones, emails, and Internet. A message can be sent in seconds. The speed of communication among people increased dramatically, which makes life easier and faster.

However, the fast life pace brought to many problems what cannot be ignored. Those problems mainly affected societies and families. First, people live in a fast-paced society, normally in big cities; have more stress than those people live in low-life-pace countryside. Stress is the main cause of many social problems and diseases. Suicide is one of the problems. Based on a recent survey conducted by Beijing University of Business, Beijing have a 60% higher suicide rate than Langfang, a small town close to Beijing. People in large city have a more rapid life pace and higher pressure on working or studying. They are more likely suffered from mental disorder and eventually commit a suicide. There are more negative influence of fast life pace to society, suicide is just one of them.

For families, people live a fast pace life have less time for family. Especially for those families both husband and wife are working. In this kind of family, parents have almost no time to care their children. Lack of quality time in family forced children seek peers’ recognition outside home. This brings a large chance for children to be influenced by negative culture. Therefore, they are more likely to commit crime when they grow up. Moreover, the divorce is also a significant problem between husband and wife live in high pace life under pressure. Fast life style took too much time from people on working. So they have little time to take care of their relationship. Lack of communication between couples served the first reason for divorce. A higher divorce rate also makes society unstable.

In a nutshell, with the development of technologies, people’s life pace is faster and faster. The positive side of it is that people’s life is becoming more and more convenient. However, the negative aspect of it is that the pressure of people is increasing significantly than before, which bring even more problems. So, we have to balance pros and cons of this issue in order to enjoy a peaceful life.
