"Most people choose a career on the basis of such pragmatic considerations as the needs of the economy, the relative ease of finding a job, and the salary they can expect to make. Hardly anyone is free to choose a career based on his or her natural talents or interest in a particular kind of work."
大多数人找工作是基于钱这种很实际的考虑,费多大的劲找到工作,就希望拿多少薪水。很难得有人能从自己的潜质和兴趣出发去找一份特殊的工作
A. In an over-populated world, the job market is always the buyer’s market, which makes it almost impossible for job seekers to choose their career at will.
B. However, to be successful means to know what you are doing, to like what you are doing and to believe what you are doing.
My article:
The author has oversimplified the standpoints holding by people when they are finding jobs. In fact, almost everyone desires to get a ideal job concerning to his or her interest and natural talents, but the practical conditions do not permit them to do so, in order to survive, people have no choice but to yield to pragmatic consideration first.
Many practical conditions are not suitable for people to freely choose what they like and want to do. First, jobs that perfectly suit for people's inner demanding such as talents or interest are rare. Even if there do exist such ideal jobs, almost all the working positions are full of people who are superior to those who commence to search for a ideal position of such jobs. On the other hand, many people's natural talents or interest have little to do with the pragmatic demanding, that is to say, these jobs are really what they like, but too ideal to provide basic living materials to help those people live a happy and steady life. People all know that in history, many great artists or writers who loved their enterprise of arts in all their lives finally died from poverty and hungry. Without life, how does a person aspire after his talents or interest? In a word, when people have nothing to eat, noting to wear and even no where to live, all dreams including finding jobs based on their natural talents or interest are null, and the first and vital thing is how to survive-- the most pragmatic consideration.
On the other hand, now people have every cause to defend themselves that they have no choice but to yield to pragmatic consideration first. In the modern high-developed society, every corner is full of people who want to find a job to survive. The over- populated problem has made it even more difficult for people to find a generic job not talking about ideal jobs based on their natural talents or interest. In addition, people, especially the young have been deeply affected by the mad pursuit of material and personal success and also been stimulated by those so-called elite's luxurious lives. As a result, people often take into account the relative ease of finding a job, the salary they can expect to make and something else concerning to today's successful symbol--money. And also, some people have the responsibility to feed a large family, so they have no free time and energy to consider whether such job has something to do with his or her natural talents or interest and the first thing is to earn enough money-- a pragmatic consideration again.
Thereby, people who choose a career on the basis of such pragmatic considerations should not be blamed for they have no dreams and courage to pursuit their own ideals. It is the practical world that let them be trapped by such dilemma between pragmatic considerations and self - natural talents or interest. However, given the fact mentioned above, people should not find executes to debate for their mulligrubs. After all, there are still many people who contribute themselves to the enterprise that not only satisfy their inner desiring such as talents and interests but also beneficial to the majority even if they encounter difficulties, depression and even dangers, such as those fighters of democratic rights movement. People should study for them.
To sum up, nobody in the world can completely ignore the pragmatic considerations when they choose a career, but people should still stick by their natural talents or interest on certain extent. (593 words) |
