Also when we cast our eyesight toward the Great Wall in Beijing, which is another product of the emperor, is an evidence to show a protecting attitude upon which the emperor concentrated on defending enemies from the north. All these grand heritages cannot be razed for modern purpose in any cases for that once they are damaged, nothing could compensate their historic values, therefore leave great sorrow to both the city and the whole human beings.

What's more, the aesthetic and architectural value of historic buildings should be preserved as a character of the city. To some extend, the styles and the artifacts of the buildings reveal the subconscious of artists thus are the products of the artists’ authentic passion, manifestations of the artists’ unique creative impulses, and creations of the artists’ spirits. The artifice as well as historic values should be well kept as the memory and the character of a city. Take the Summer Palace and Tian'an gate in Beijing for example, they are valuable not only because of their historic status as evidence of the Qing dynasty, but also their aesthetic values. The Palace and the Tian'an gate are now the marks of Beijing as a central of China both in the ancient times and now. Historic buildings are the results of the craftsmanship and material employees in construction, therefore once being damaged or rebuilt, their aesthetic as well as historic value would never be recovered.

But under some emergency circumstances, modern buildings could take precedence of the old ones. For example, when the community is in great need of a modern hospital to accommodate up- to-now apparatus, or a power station for the increasing needs of the citizen. But there are no more places to be considered except the old buildings, we should compare the importance between the interests of the cmmunity and the value of historic buildings. Once many old buildings exist in the city representing the same architecture style and the history of the buildings are not that much important, they could be razed for the purpose of the community's benefits.

As a conclusion, the decision whether to raze historic buildings for modern usage must be made seriously because their historic as well as aesthetic values would not be repaired in the future. But once the community's development and requirement is being stuck at the expense of preserving the old ones, we should put the former in the first place.
