In the course of human events it is widely demonstrated that taking a practical point of view is usually more effective and helpful than adopting an idealistic one in addressing affairs of most realms. Pragmatic behavior does guarantee survival while idealistic behavior usually turns out to be unrealized dream. But it is too hasty to claim that in any realm of life, the only way to succeed is to take a practical view and there is nothing good to hold an idealistic perspective.

In the first place, we have to admit that pragmatic behavior does more good to human beings in many aspects of our life than idealistic one. Take political realm as an example. As a political leader, one almost always has to take a pragmatic action to deal with everyday issue. It is dangerous for a political leader to deal with domestic and international affairs at one’s own will and one’s idealistic perception of the affairs without pondering the complex and sophisticated situation. Just one step's fault may cause an unimaginable effect. In the history, there has been harsh precedent that is still meaningful to today's people. The failure of utopia, a concept that describes a purely idealistic picture of a wonderful society, is a good example to manifest how important pragmatic behavior or perspective is. In point of view of utopia, people are fully selfless and the society is one fraught with such huge amounts of wealth and resources that in this society people take everything according to what they need. Alluring though it seems, this kind of society is almost totally impossible to approach because it is just in the idealistic domain of human beings' deep heart. Later, affected to much extent by this concept, Carl Marx, the creator of “communism”, stimulated to arouse a famous revolutionary against the capitalism world in order to establish an ideal society that is similar to the one depicted in utopia. However, this revolution finally came to an end because it is after all directed by an idealistic point of view without considering the practical complex situation and goes against the essence of humans and the world. Thus the view of the leader of the Soviet Union is so easily superceded by the simpler and more immediate option that this union collapsed and consequently for the same reason the whole communism world collapsed! Therefore, it is a disaster rather than a blessing to take a sheer idealistic point of view or behavior to face the complex environment in political realm. The same principal also works in the business and social realms.

In the second place, however, holding an idealistic point of view is not absolutely useless and harmful all the time. The key point lies in how we define or to say use the concept of idealistic. If one could perfectly control the concept and be moderately use the idealistic point of view, one might actually benefit from it. In the academic realm, for instance, many great achievements are obtained or stem from an occasionally idealistic idea. Since ancient times, people have been dreaming to fly in the sky one day. It may be a totally dream and impossible idealistic imagination at that time. But just because of this idealistic idea and dream, inventors took hundreds of backbreaking research and went through numerous failures and eventually realized this dream. Without the idealistic dream that supports inventors to go ahead, can we fly in the sky today? Certainly not! It is idealistic that encourages us human beings to go further and further.

In conclusion, we should achieve what we could by taking a pragmatic behavior in most domains of our life and at the same time holding an idealistic idea or even dream as our supporter that encourages us to keep going when we encounter difficulty.

是我没表达清楚，45分钟实在太少。我是想说：苏联的制度由于基于一种纯粹理想化的理论，对共产主义这一不切实际的理想的追求，其领导人很容易被superceded，导致了最终的崩溃；同样，其他的社会主义国家也随之覆灭。这些都是基于原始理论的错误。
