The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of New Mexico offers active research
programs  in  construction,  geotechnical,  structural,  transportation,  water  resources,  and
environmental  engineering.  The  department  is  characterized  by  the  state-of-the-art
technology,  impressive  research  facilities,  friendly  and  motivated  faculty,  and  a  diverse
student  body  dedicated  to  problem  solving  and  making  a  difference  in  the  world.


Transportation Program provides world-class learning, research, and training opportunities
for  graduate  students.  The  program  is  growing  and  expanding  quickly.  We  are  recruiting
highly motivated graduate students in transportation engineering for both 2015 Spring and
Fall semesters. The potential research topics include Intelligent Transportation System (ITS),
large-scale  transportation  system  modeling  and  simulation,  traffic  operation  and  control,
autonomous  vehicle  systems,  traffic  detection  and  sensor  data  analysis,  wireless
communication in transportation, traffic safety and security.  

The successful candidates are expected to have a M.S. or B.S. degree in Civil Engineering,
Control  Engineering,  Computer  Science,  Systems  Engineering,  or  Mathematics.  Self-
motivated students with a strong sense of collaborative teamwork are encouraged to apply
